I spent plenty of time yesterday watching news clips of the tribute. The memorial looks amazing.
When it happened 10 years ago, I was just leaving for school. I was in 8th grade. As soon as we got to school, all the teachers were talking about it, saying it was a major, shocking event. Actually, our teachers ended up making it an educational thing that day and in the following week as it became clear what happened. We had classes where they explained who Al-Qeada and Osama bin Laden were, situations in the Middle East, and things like that.
Looking back, the one thing I can remember was how simple and optimistic everything used to be before the attacks. I heard from another poster on a different message board about how he watched clips of the news stories on 9/10/2001, and just how innocent they were. They still had the atmosphere of 90's-era relative optimism and focus on domestic issues. One day jolted the entire country out of all of that.
