I have always looked forward to the annual PWI awards ever since I was a regular reader back when I was like 10. I haven't gotten one in years, but I still always look forward to the results, especially Rookie of the Year.
I was just wondering if anyone was a reader and knew who was on the ballot and when could the results be expected?

Local drugstore here used to get PWI, and I'd pick up the award issue and maybe one or two more a year. They quit carrying it, so I don't see it anymore.

Spoiler: WWE wrestler(s)/event(s) win every top award. Didn't AJ Styles win 2 years ago. And Dean Malenko won it, when he wasn't near the main event scene?

Well, the only award announced this year that I saw was Rosita, and she won most Inspirational Wrestler of the Year. The Machine Guns won last year for tag team of the year as well as Pope winning for most improved wrestler of the year.
This will also be the first year since 2003 that Shawn Michaels will not win Match of the Year.
However, on wikipedia it says that Punk won wrestler of the year this year, followed by Christian, Miz and Zack Ryder for the runners up.
My predictions this year:
Match: Cena vs Punk at MitB Improved: Zack Ryder Rookie: Leakee in FCW, he's pretty good for a rookie Tag Team: Beer Money Popular: CM Punk Hated: Johnny Ace, as there weren't any strong heels in any of the companies. Feud: Christian vs Orton/Punk vs WWE Comeback: Kevin Nash maybe, not too many big comebacks this year, tough to call. Woman: Beth Phoenix

The issue should be out on the stands in a week or two.
I'm like you, I buy it (almost) every year just to relive my days of being a huge fan of all things wrestling. It's a fun trip down memory lane and it only costs about $10.
I share it with my brother.

What I don't get is why most of the rookie nominees aren't usually rookies at all To some (magazines and the Observer and such), they strangely consider someone who has 6 years of experience to be a rookie as long as they didn't appear on television for those 6 years. It's flawed. Either only consider people legitimately in their rookie year, or don't have the award at all. Or re-name it. Another thing that I've found very weird in recent years in the Observer awards is how they eliminated certain categories several years ago, but kept their counterpart category. For example, there's a "Worst Manager" award but no "Manager of the Year."

In regards to Rookie of the year there, it's really tough, as someone may have started training really late in the period being voted on, so they may have a chance to get in twice. Leakee started in fall 2010, so he didnt have much experience, but since he's still pretty much a rookie in the voting period,
That happened to Goldberg in 1998. As far as the Observer, they had Brutus Magnus as a rookie the year Frightmare won in 2010, and he's been at it for awhile. Same with David Otunga last year. He started in 2009 in the middle of the voting period, so they qualified him for the next year. The whole 6 years not on tv is nonsense.

Remember the year the Steiner Brothers beat the Eliminators for tag team of the year by one vote?

With all of the other big promotions going the way of the dodo PWI is really quite pointless anymore, IMO. It was cool when I was a kid when the WWF, NWA/WCW. WCCW, AWA, ,and later ECW would battle it out for these honors.

PWI has published some of my "Unofficial Awards"-- honors made up by the fans.
Last year was the first time I missed out on the Year in Review issue because the local supermarket is spotty as far as stocking wrestling magazines goes. Maybe I'll have better luck at the new Target.

Remember the year the Steiner Brothers beat the Eliminators for tag team of the year by one vote? Actually, it was Harlem Heat who won by a vote, and that was in 1996. I remember being surprised when I finally learned the voting wasn't legit and nowhere near the number of people the magazing claimed to have voted actually did.

There's gotta be someone on this board who still picks these up monthly and could tell me who the nominees are. There's just gotta be.
