So one of my friends who's been training for a while, refereeing and isn't ready to be on shows yet wants to be my manager. My trainer/booker has said he doesn't mind. Any ideas of a character for him? He kind of wanted to be my 'doctor', making notes, giving me tic tacs as pills or something. Also for some reason he's found a Shane Storm style mask and wants to wear it.
He had an idea where over time he could end up being an abusive doctor, with me not under his medication anymore. But for now, he's thinking of a character, a name or anything like that. Any help for him?

Not going to lie the idea of the doctor taking notes and giving you the tic tac pills is pretty good.
Dr. Schadenfreude or if he wanted to make it like an actual name Dr. Schaden Freud. Bonus points if he talks about unresolved sexual tension or an Oedipal complex as the reason that the audience hates him.

I like the doctor/tic tac angle.
Not sure if this is what you were trying to say, but if he got you hooked on the pills and used them to control you it might be an interesting angle .. you're addicted and can't make yourself refuse to do his bidding because he controls your drug availability.

To add something to it, what if he's your state-appointed social worker? Like, he has no choice at first to be with you and it makes him uneasy, and then he could either be a heel and try to control you, or a heartwarming face where you could both learn from each other how to have a good time? It could go a lot of directions.
EDIT: Maybe to introduce him, you could have an official come out at the start of the show and go "Ladies and Gentlemen, due to overwhelming concern over Headcase's actions and overall lack of stability as of late, certain legislation has passed that requires us to now have a state-appointed medical professional on-hand at all times when he competes. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but please note we are being forced to comply under penalty of law.
Or, if he's wearing a mask, maybe he could be your partner in a big brother's/big sister's style charity program where you're mentoring him.

Depends on where you wanna go with this.
If you wanna be a babyface out of the angle, maybe your friend could be a sideshow owner and he has you under contract, demeaning you and making you do stuff against your will. Like someone wants an autograph, and he grabs the book away and yells a price for the autograph and makes you walk away. A sympathetic babyface. Once you break up, you would be a beloved crazy face.
Just a thought. I do like Chazraps idea as well.

I don't think he should wear a mask though.

I don't think he should wear a mask though. A surgeon's mask COULD work. Might be explained that he's worried about germs (possible name: "Dr. James A. Phobe"?) and, like Gorgeous George/Rick Martel, he could 'disinfect' the ring beforehand (also makes for a handy weapon when he interferes).

Not that a mask couldn't work, it's just that a Shane Storm type mask IMO would take away from Headcase. A surgeon's mask could work though.

Thanks for all these, the ideas are awesome. I think the whole mask thing is that he thinks he'll be fresh in people's mind as a referee still. To be honest I don't think a lot of people pay attention to the referees.

I do like the idea of someone in full surgical scrubs or a doctor's outfit, and then also having on a mask. Especially if the mask is never brought up and isn't acknowledged, he's just a doctor who happens to wear a mask.

Especially if the mask is never brought up and isn't acknowledged, he's just a doctor who happens to wear a mask. Sounds very similar to Rob Corddry's character on Children's Hospital. Only he had clown makeup, not a mask. Anyway, I think the mask might make it too over the top. If anything, I'd go with a surgical mask, but it would make more sense for you to have a psychiatrist type doctor with you, not the type of doctor that deals with physically sick people. Oh and I also loved the idea that Akeem suggested about having him talk about unresolved sexual tension and stuff as the reason that the audience boos him. But IIRC, you're a face right now.

This sounds like a good idea, but aren't you skirting into Sabu 1994 territory?

To be honest I don't think a lot of people pay attention to the referees. I can see why he would want to cover up, but as others suggested, the facemask/scrubs thing works. However, if your buddy wants something a little updated why not try a designer surgical mask or maybe search a thrift store for odds and ends (cheaper anyway). That way he can make the gimmick his own. I do love the idea of the disenfectant as a visual cue/heat generator/weapon. Obviously he would need to try to find something that is non-toxic.

What was the name of the doctor Lou Albano always made reference to? The one who did the electro-shock therapy skit with George Steele on Tuesday Night Titans....
Whatever your manager ends up doing, I think he should talk like that guy did. Psuedo-European accent and all.

Maybe it is a little like Sabu 1994 ECW I guess. I've just always thought it was natural for a character like mine to have a manager so I could keep some mystique about me. When I first had thoughts about doing this character I never wanted to talk anyway. I'll just grunt or scream or something. Still loving the ideas though. Especially the one about disinfectant as a heat getter. Also Kash's one about my friend sending me to the back and stopping me interacting with the kids. God that would get him nuclear heat I think.
He's 17 and a big boy (Husky Harris sized) so I hope he's confident enough to pull this off.
