Small Interview with Steven Spielberg in regards to Jurassic Park 4 and Indiana Jones 5 along with some answers regards that last Indy movie. JP4: Indy 5: That probably explains something right there (And did he work "George" in there enough times? )...Anyway, here's the MacGuffin quote about Indy 4: And finally, Spielberg cops to coming up with "Nuking the Fridge."

Its good that he has a sense of humor about it, but I haven't really enjoyed his films since like the mid to late 90's. I'm not saying he's terrible, because he films make a lot of money, but they haven't been my cup of tea.

Well, considering that "Jump the Shark" is now a TV Guide blog that doesn't even use the term, I guess our choices are either "Nuked the Fridge" or the spiritual successor "Bone the Fish".

There's always been speculation that Spielberg wanted the atomic bomb scene, I guess it confirms it.

I knew it was all George!!! That bully George Lucas is peer pressuring Steven Spielberg into making bad movies that rape our childhoods. What a bully!! ;D

the fridge thing is funnier when you read the original screenplay for Back to the Future and see that something similar was in there

The only weird thing about that fridge part to me was the fact that the whole scene just seemed totally pointless in of itself. The whole thing seemed so tacked in there, it just looks like they wanted a atomic explosion just to have an atomic explosion cuz ya know, they had those in the 50's, look how 50's this is!
If Indy escaped the Russians on the rocket sled and was then immediately picked up by the Americans it would have ended up the same anyway, so what was the point.

I think they changed it because they did not want kids getting stuck playing in refrigerators.

I liked Indy IV, with the exceptional of Shia LaBoeuf, who I didn't like at all.
JP3 would have fine if they 1- didn't cast Tea Leoni and 2- ended the movie with the T-Rex killing the Spinosaurus, rather than the Spino killing the Rex in a throwaway scene near the beginning, and dumped the entire "Raptors looking for their eggs" plotline and replaced with a simple "Raptors want to kill us" one instead.

JP3 would have been a lot better without the Deus Ex Military ending.

I need to rewatch Indy 4 again. I saw it in theaters and remember liking it but I felt the same way about Spider-Man 3. Idk whether I forced myself to like it or I legitimately did. I'll have to go back over it again.

I'll have to go back over it again. Not really related, but I haven't seen any of the Indiana Jones movies myself. As for the Spider-Man 3 thing, which is why I even mention it, I actually thought 3 was decent but dislike the other two.

So... they wanted to work in a big boom? What's the issue with that? It's their movie.

Never mind the fridge or the aliens, the whole thing was pointless.

So Spielberg was only behind one of the two main things people bitch about in this movie.

For those who (like me) are clueless about what a "MacGuffen" is:
A MacGuffin (sometimes McGuffin or maguffin) is "a plot element that catches the viewers' attention or drives the plot of a work of fiction".
