This may be one of my favorite "musicals" style movie ever. Just a fun ride with two giant dorks.

Yeah, alot of people who bash it just don't get it. I'm not saying it is for everyone and it is flawless but it is fun. I remember someono who reviewed it online bashing it, saying D worked best in three minute song skits best and shouldn't go beyond that. Failing to realize the majority of the movie is based around the skits of their show sewed together (and in some cases expanded upon) into a full length movie.
One of the few things I do wish they had done different, and they both agree on this in hindsight, is making Kyle an actual likeable character. That was always kinda the point of him, he was the grounded and likeable one so that Jack could go way out there and be annoying at times.
That said, this movie had possibly one of the best opening scenes of all time with the piece about Jack's backstory, Dio, and Meatloaf.

Agreed, although I found Kyle to be likable...just wanted to appear to be a big shot in front of JB because he was otherwise a loser.

I bought the soundtrack before I watched the movie. So I imagined a lot of the film from listening to the songs before I watched the movie. It wasn't a bad film, I was just expecting a little bit more. Still a good movie though. Loved Neil Hamburgers cameo in the film. Two air vents, on the roof! That's what the guy was talking aS***!!! And this is my favourite line from the movie.

I enjoyed it, and thought it was fun; but I don't know that I ever need to see it again.
Decent flick though.

I own the soundtrack on iTunes.
I remember seeing this at the theatre while I was working there, and it was right before my shift. I busted up at a lot of it, but one of my favorite parts that I remember was Kyle only being able to sing back-up, even while on his own.

The look on Jack Black's face as he wills his penis to push that button is so damn funny.

"He's gonna make you his sex slave. You're gonna gargle mayonnaise." "NO!" Kyles reaction is priceless.

Duuuude I was just thinking of this movie last night. I don't know if I've seen it since the night I saw it in the theater, but I loved the hell out of it.

I find this movie quite entertaining, but what has always annoyed me is the weird lurch into the status quo in the middle of the movie. The D's bit has always been that Kyle was the pudgier, likeable one while JB was the overbearing, more annoying one, the dominant partner. In this film, it starts out with Jack worshipping Kyle, but then as soon as Kyle's secret is revealed they just switch back to standard D, with Jack in charge and Kyle as the backing guy without any explanation.
Also, the songs that are good are a-f***ing-mazing (Kickapoo for example) and at times genuinely touching (Baby is actually beautiful, the 'and daddy's gone' line breaks my heart without any irony) but the ones that aren't good really, REALLY suck.

Loved it. Not even a Tenacious D fan per se. Apparently, it is supposed to be for the fans. I dunno, I don't have the albums or watched the show ever, but the movie was fantastic.

Can't say I'm the movie's biggest fan, but the rock-off with the Devil was a god damn awesome scene.
