I really hate the "I don't have a problem with it, so no one else should, either" line of thought. You may not have been offended by it, someone was. End of story. this. Co-signed. I'm not a fan of people being over-sensitive, but he used a very specific slur. It wouldn't be that different had he dropped the n-bomb. Freedom of speech is important, but so is consequence.

Too bad he didn't try to backtrack and make it a compliment.
"No, no...look throughout the history of Hollywood and the respectable gay actors who have lit up our screens with their amazing talents, honed through years and years of rehearsals..."
And while some may not have been offended, those in the 'right position' for his career were. I'm sure he has plenty of friends who would've cracked up laughing at that...and, as he found out, there were those who don't find it funny.

Well, not to be rude but so what? I don't get why people think that saying "I'm offended" means that they are entitled to anything. You're offended, well, so what? I am fully for gay rights but really, what he said wasn't that bad. "Rehearsal is for fags" - come on. It was a stupid remark and that was it. A comment that wasnt needed and that continues to perpetuate the idea that gay people are wimps or weak. He made a mistake and he apologised, and this didnt need to cost him a job, but the guy is clearly a speak first, think later kinda guy and so im glad that these things have caught up with him I would hope that everybody is aware at this point that not all gay people are wimps or are weak and I would certainly hope that nobody is going to Brett Ratner in order to form opinions on homosexuals based on a comment he made at a Tower Heist (which nobody saw) Q&A.

THe title of this thread is misleading when you think about the double meaning behind "OUT"

that's like #9,000,000 on the list of reasons that this douchebag shouldn't be allowed to produce anything, ever.

The point isnt that potentially no one would have heard him, but simply the fact that he said it, thought it was ok to say it and that he, and I assume his friends, would have lol'ed away at something like this. It isn't ok to use someone sexuality to describe something negative

Also it's the word he used. "Faggot" and its variations have basically become as bad as the n-word. Unless you live in the UK, where it means a cigarette, mate.

I should think gay people wouldnt want their lifestyles diminished by flippant comments. Swings and roundabouts.

Their "lifestyles" shouldn't be affected by Brett Ratner saying "rehearsals are for fags". And yet, clearly for some, it did. How funny that people would take offence to an offensive slur being used

If anything Ratner should've been blacklisted for what he did to X-Men: Last Stand.
