So I was talking with a coworker about this and couldn't find one online.
Are there any portable mp3 players made in the USA? I haven't been able to find one so far.

Even stuff "made in the usa" is usually only sort of, kind of made in the USA. Good luck.

*shrugs* why is this so important? I could understand if it were something really expensive like a car or even a television...but an mp3 player? Is this just some sort of observation you've made or does everything you own need to come from the USA?

It was more just a curisoity, but I don't really see the difference between an mp3 player and a car to be honest. Its more about supporting homegrown jobs (if the product is good quality). Its silly to complain about the lack of jobs in your own country when the majority of the things you buy are made somewhere else. Moreso I just thought it was odd that there aren't any MP3 players made in the USA.

My opinion as to why there are no MP3 players made in the USA is that since Ipods were never really that expensive everyone got one because they were the best. Macs are expensive so a lot of people cant afford them thus other pcs companies do well but Apple didnt price ipods very high and make them unaffordable so it was easy to crush the competition.

Sony and especially Samsung smoked them. iPod had name recognition and fantastic marketing, not the best product.

iPod's? I'm pretty sure it says on the packaging for the touch that it's assembled in California.

Unfortunately I'm not sure such a thing exists - I wish it did, but I've never been able to find a MIA MP3 player. Numero, seeing as you're interested in MIA products like myself, here's a website you might be interested. All American made stuff madeinusaforever.com/

yeah, good luck finding much of anything in the tech/electronics sector made in the USA anymore. Those jobs started getting shipped Eastward back in the 80's and haven't looked back since.

Things only need to be 51% made in the USA to carry the label, and oftentimes things are made in what is technically US territory but still a third world country.

Yeah, you can look at guitar for a prime example of this. A Gibson guitar is made here, but uses Indian Rosewood (well used to, that is), Mahogany from another country (want to say Africa, but don't hold me to that), so it's really only finished here. It still goes to an American worker, but it's funny how some stuff really isn't completely made where it says it is.
