Biggest things about last night:
-HORRID BABIP luck for the Tigers. They were hitting some stingers off Burnett, but a number were poorly placed, and some had the gross misfortune of being hit towards Curtis Granderson.
-Why, oh why, oh why are all these managers so freaking dumb? Why was Jim Leyland bunting in the first inning against AJ Burnett? Why did Joe Girardi ask Derek Jeter, who had just RIPPED a 2 RBI double two innings earlier, to bunt in the fifth in a game he's already winning? What in the blue hell is wrong with all these guys? STOP BUNTING.
-Two off days in a five game series is a sad joke that MLB should be ashamed of.

I really don't get this recent obsession of playing small ball in spots where you don't really need to with players who have been hitting well. I only really like bunting when in sacrifice spots to advance runners into scoring position, or when you have guys with freakish speed who can easily turn a bunt into a base hit, like Brett Gardner, Jacoby Elisbury, Peter Bourjos, etc.

Tigers offense was dog shit, and they need to not use Alburquerque. His forte is getting people to swing and miss on sliders down in the zone, but New York doesn't swing the f***ing bat. No wonder their games always take four hours to play. Time for the Yankees to get Fisted.
BTW, why the "Welcome Back to NY Valverde"?

Dick Stockton's really gotten on my nerves during this Phils/Cards series. He seems to be about 5 seconds behind all the action, calls guys by the wrong names, and doesn't seem to notice when some things happen at all. I know he's been around a long long time, but that doesn't explain how he didn't even notice that Shane Victorrino fell down in the outfield and threw the ball backwards until after they showed the replay.
He is still better than Joe Buck, though.

BTW, why the "Welcome Back to NY Valverde"? That'd be because after Game 2, Valverde basically said the series was over. That Verlander was pitching Game 3, and after Game 4, they'd be celebrating. There was something in there about not going back to New York. I only read about what Valverde said, but from what I've heard, he said it in a jesting manner.

I think tomorrow is the time for the Tigers to use the trigger word on Granderson. He's a sleeper agent you know.

Valverde's a major hot dog and likes to talk. Hopefully the Yanks can show him up in Game 5. It may have been in jest (Valverde doesn't strike me as an asshole so much as someone who just likes to talk big, which is a part of his charm), but I love seeing people who boast eat crow. ;D

There were no outs and it would have been first and second. Greedy much Utley?

When the Cardinals get runners on base, they will do one of two things- ground into a double play or drive in at least two runs.
They are high-risk, high-reward.

Never fear, the Cardinal bats ride to the rescue!
As long as they can hit, they can beat ANYBODY.

If someone can photoshop Roy Oswalt's head on Dug from up during one of his "I hate squirrels!" scenes, I'd love you forever...just not in that kind of way.

There are times when it's ok, but they're exceedingly rare. That said, I'm convinced these managers are doing it as a big "screw you" to sabermetrics. Not smart. Oh my God; the INSTANT Utley's ground ball hit the first base bag I knew the Phillies would at least score one, if not outright tie it. Surprise, surprise, here comes the first run. I swear to God, I have never seen a team with better luck sustained for so long. Not to say their talent isn't the biggest factor, it obviously is, but it feels like it's every game this stuff happens.

You have to figuratively put a stake through the Cardinals to beat them.
This team simply does not die.
