the newest 30 for 30 short is about the time A-Rod almost became a Red Sox and ended up being a Yankee in 2004 And it is outstanding. Between this and "Judging Jewell", the 30 for 30 shorts are starting to be better than the full-length documentaries. I actually think the Alex Rodriguez-to-Boston 30 for 30 could've gone full-length, if they went all the way with it and interviewed everyone who was involved. A-Rod, Nomar Garciaparra, Manny Ramirez, Magglio Ordonez, Jon Lester, Brandon McCarthy, Alfonso Soriano, Aaron Boone, Joaquin Arias, Robinson Cano, bring 'em all in. I think that would have been captivating.

Rumor on another episode for the next season I hope they find Adrian Dantley. Isiah screwed him out of a title.

@billsimmons One storyline that didn't make the cut in our Big East doc: Holy Cross was the first school invited to join in 1979. HC declined.

Great documentary and I really feel someone said it best on what killed the Big East.
"Capitalism killed the Big East". Not an indictment on that, but it is just the nature of the beast that is college sports that the Big East in its goliath sense was going to die.

I'm watching it now. It really has the feel of "The Rise and Fall of ECW." That's not a bad thing, however.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Bad Boys Pistons 30 for 30 goes to the same well as The U, No Crossover, Run Ricky Run, Straight Outta LA, The Fab Five, Broke, and Requiem for the Big East, namely that the focus of the documentary is "these young black men were just trying to have a good time, and it was driving these stodgy old white men crazy!"

I will forever give Michael Irvin credit for saying the hatred for Miami had nothing to do with race, it was because they were bad boys. Michael freaking Irvin owned up to it and admitted that Miami brought the hate onto themselves.

Run Ricky Run was about Ricky Williams being a generally odd dude and his journey to enlightenment, and Broke was an indictment of the late 90s/early 2000s "MTV Cribs" lifestyle that screwed people over financially. I'll agree with you on The U and No Crossover, maybe Straight Outta LA, haven't seen the others yet.

Comcast in Massachusetts has a new 30 for 30 entitled "Hillsborough" airing tonight at 8 p.m. on ESPN. The two-hour documentary chronicles the 1989 tragedy at Hillsborough Stadium in England where a stampede in the stadium's standing-room-only areas killed 96 people and injured 766.
I've seen no advertising for this and heard nothing about it until I saw it on my cable listings.

Because it seemed like I couldn't watch one Sportscenter without seeing at least two ads for it. Could be because I have a different provider (AT&T).

If you didn't catch "Hillsborough" tonight I highly recommend you catch the next showing. Fantastic yet incredibly heartbreaking documentary. Right up there and maybe even better than "The U" and "The Two Escobars". It was that good.

Right up there and maybe even better than "The U" and "The Two Escobars". It was that good. Yeah, it is sad just how the authorities were willing to go to cover up their own failures that caused the tragedy. One thing I will say is it didn't go after the people who said some of the most horrible things and only really mentioned them in passing (men like Kelvin MacKenzie, Edward Pearce, Charles Itandje, Jeremy Hunt, Alan Davies, Oliver Popplewell, David Crompton, and the fans of opposing teams with their chants). If you read a lot more about it, you will find that there were a lot more ugly things done. Heck, even the British soap opera EastEnders made a poor joke about the situation.
