Hey, Shaun was on his way, but then that horrific injury happened. But he's bounced back into becoming a decent player, so I can't consider him a disappointment. He won't reach the level that was expected, but it's because of a freak horrific injury. The fact he's still in the NBA, and is still contributing says a whole lot about where he'd be if that never happened. As for ones I'd like to see - One about the Core Four, and how they brought the Yankees another dynasty. - One about Bill Walsh, and how he's one of the smartest people in NFL history. - One about how far boxing has fallen. - The career of Penny Hardaway, and how a guy that was looking like he'd become a Hall of Famer lost it thanks to injuries. - They did one for Auburn vs Bama, I'd like to see them do ones for Oklahoma vs Texas, Army vs Navy, and other great college rivalries. - The 2005 NCAA Tournament.

I want one about the Avs/Red Wings rivalry that for better or worse helped define and shape the course of the entire NHL from the mid-90s to about 2003.

I liked the Pistons episode, they were the perfect heel transition champs between the Lakers/ Celtics and Jordan's Bulls. While I liked the Pistons Episode. I liked the Big East episode better, Georgetown were the great heel champions between Jimmy V.'s squad (The NC State Wolfpack) and Villanova. Basketball built a connference but football destroyed it. I did not see the latest 30 for 30 Soccer stories (The Opposition and Maradona '86) The next 2 episodes will deal with a Pub terrorist attack in Ireland during World Cup '94 and the Myth of Mané Garrincha.

Out of curiosity, what was the difference between the vanilla "Bad Boys" and the remix they were promoting that apparently aired after it?

Richard Deitsch from the ESPN upfront
Looks like there will be a 30 For 30 follow up on Miami called The U: Part 2 (working title)

I think my biggest issue with "Bad Boys" was how milquetoast it was. It just sort of came and went, didn't attempt to ruffle any feathers, put a nice bow on it, and that was that. And I think a lion's share of that has to be attributed to the fact that it was produced by NBA Entertainment. Consistently, the worst 30 for 30 documentaries have been the ones produced by a league's entertainment or public relations arm. "Once Brothers" could have been so great, but it felt like it didn't want to go all the way in telling its story, and the documentary faltered because of it. As a Red Sox fan, I'm bound to say that I liked "Four Days in October", but the tale of the 2004 American League Championship Series would be such a great story to tell if an original storyteller was given the opportunity. Instead, we got the same highlights, clips, and talking heads as we had in the 2004 World Series Film or the NESN-produced "Faith Rewarded". Looks like there will be a 30 For 30 follow up on Miami called The U: Part 2 (working title) Sequels are never any good.

I've got each movie that was on Netflix lined up (which is a lot of them. Almost all of Season One and parts of Two, as well as the in-between movies like The Fab Five and Unguarded). Which ones in particular would you suggest? I've seen Broke, Ghosts of Ole Miss, and I'm in the middle of Unguarded as I type.

It's a documentary about how a fraud(John Spano) nearly became the owner of the New York Islanders and the fallout of his inevitable discovery. It's actually a really good retrospective of the financially decadent 90s(For example,Spano more or less walked into Fleet Bank, asked for 6 million, and got it just like that)and just how far a legendary team like the Islanders had (and still continue to, in a way), fallen.

Out of them, I still rank Pony Excess as the best. The Marinovich Project is one of the underrated ones.

Watched all 7 of the 30 for 30 Soccer Stories (thanks Netflix) and here are my rankings from best to worst.
1. Hillsborough (Episode 1) - The only one that was more than 24 minutes (1 hr 44 m) and with what happened, you could see why. Just absolutely tragic what happened on that day and even more tragic considering the way the authorities handled it was to cover it up by blaming the victims while the media's response was to be assholes and right horrible things about the victims. While I could have wanted to delve more into the media's evil in this one, maybe it is best they didn't as it would be more depressing.
2. Ceasefire Massacre (Episode 4) - Ranking 2-4 was very hard as they were all documentaries that could have used more time, but for the time they had they really did great with it. I only put Ceasefire Massacre #2 because it wasn't subtitled and it was more recent of a tragedy. The whole "Troubles" terrorism by both the IRA and in this case, the UVW, is a damn shame and I am going to call both sides terrorists because that is exactly what they are. Anyway, the truly depressing thing is no one was ever made accountable in this as the perpetrators never were caught (the reasons are corrupt depending on who you ask). I feel bad for the Ireland National Team who made probably the biggest victory in their history and it was overshadowed by this horrible act at a bar in Loughinisland being shot up by two terrorists.
3. Barbosa: The Man Who Made Brazil Cry (Episode 7) - Scott Norwood and Bill Buckner have nothing on the trouble that Moacir Barbosa Nascimento went through for allowing the winning goal in the 1950 World Cup Final. This guy was skewered by the media and injuries never allowed him to ever redeem himself. Even after Brazil did all those World Cup victories years later, Barbosa was NEVER forgiven for his one missed save. As Barbosa himself said in an interview, "The maximum punishment in Brazil is 30 years imprisonment, but I have been paying, for something I am not even responsible for, by now, for 50 years." It got so bad that in 1993, he was allowed to be a commentator for one of Brazil's international matches and was turned away from a Brazil training session because they thought he was a jinx. Truly a tragedy of a singular player that if Shakespeare had seen this, he would even offer the guy a drink and want to hear his story.
4. The Opposition (Episode 2) - I seriously was ready to give this #3 until I saw the last doc and was close to giving it the #2 spot considering how just pure evil this whole incident. If none of you know, a coup de tat happened in Chile and the dictator who took over made the National Stadium where the National Soccer Team played, basically a concentration camp like prison for those who he thought were against his regime. It even got worse when FIFA forced the Chile National Team to play a game against the Soviet Union for a spot in the World Cup here. The Soviet Union forfeited their spot by not even showing up and the Chile National Team was forced to score a goal unopposed so they could say Chile won 1-0.
5. The Myth of Garrincha (Episode 5) - Just because this is #5 does not mean this is terrible whatsoever, it just wasn't as good as the others. It basically tells the life story of Manuel Francisco de Santos (nicknamed Garrincha, meaning little bird), who played at the same time as Pele on the same Brazilian national teams and kind of had an Arnold Palmer like quality to him that while Pele may have been a better player, for one reason or another, Garrincha may have been just as popular, even being considered "The Joy of the People". His life took a tragic turn do to injuries that he never allowed to heal properly and the lifetime illness of alcoholism that was responsible for his death years later. Tragic life, but the great point was his funeral was treated like if the president of our country was assassinated where basically a lot of people attended to say their goodbyes.
6. Mysteries of the Rimet Trophy (Episode 6) - This truly was a disappointment because they really could have done so damn much if they weren't hampered by being 24 minutes. Basically, the original World Cup trophy was something of an enigma in that it was guarded by the Italians against their own allies the Nazis (who they thought would attempt to steal it), was stolen once and founded by a dog named Pickles, and then was stolen and never found again (believed to have been melted down and sold). In fact, even a replica sold for a crap ton of money because people thought it might be the original (despite the fact that even the auctioneers said it wasn't the original), only to realize the auctioneers were right and it was the replica. Sadly, nothing was really talked about to an extent, despite the fact that freaking Brett Ratner directed it.
7. Maradona '86 (Episode 3) - This was terrible because it basically was a situation of if you know what happened, you are not going to learn anything new. Basically talks about Maradona getting ejected from a World Cup game against Hungary for going Shawn Michaels on a Hungarian player with his kick and then they basically won the 1986 World Cup. Every match is given just a glance and even the Hand of God controversy against England wasn't even talked about that much (almost freaking ignored). This was just boring and really made me angry I wasted my time with this one after watching it.

Saw the Soccer Stories doc White, Blue and White, the one that just premiered recently and wasn't on Netflix. Yeah....I really do not know what to feel about this one. For most of the documentary, it was just okay. But then near the end their is a crash during filming and you see part of the crash from a first hand view and on what hand, it definitely was a wakeup call for those who were barely paying attention (like me), but then again it seemed, it seemed very exploitive in the way that did we really need to see that in a first hand view.
