This type of attitude pisses me off. My 10 year old daughter was diagnosed with it a couple of years ago, but we always knew something was up. She has had struggles after struggles after struggles. She tries really hard but things that are obvious to us just don't come to mind for her. She gets a thought in her head and it is stuck there. She has gotten better about settling down, but she still gets severely depressed that she just cannot be normal. People that dismiss her struggles so casually do not help. For the sake of people like my daughter, if you don't actually know anything about a particular disorder, either go to the effort to educate yourself on it in order to speak intelligently or just keep your opinion to yourself. He's not dismissing diagnosed people, if you'd read his second post. He is dismissing those on the internet who have one or two common symptoms and then go down the road of self-diagnosis as a means to justify anti-social behaviors. But since he can't possibly know what catagory the op falls under it's still perhaps best left unsaid. People told me my anxety/depression was bs too.

As someone diagnosed with it, and a member of a very autistic household (one brother is also diagnosed with AS, the other has "classic" autism), I suggest you go and ask a doctor. Just the fact that you feel you should ask us before and not just go is a sign of it in my experience. I always ask people for opinions on little things at the age of 24.

I really cant stand the "self diagnosis" generation. It's like ten years of medical education and all the experience after means f*** all to you when you have Google on your iPhone.
Im not saying trust doctors with every little facet of your health, but when people list one or two symptoms of Asperger's and instantly think theyve made a life changing discovery about themselves, its really annoying.

Everyone and their dog has Aspergers. Everyone here seems to, at least.

I just gotta say this, and it isn't just you, but I've noticed some people here take every opportunity to make these kind of comments about the people posting here. And yes, you are a big offender in this. So if you dislike the people posting here so much, why are you here? Seriously.

I'd definitely trust a doctor's word before an internet test, even if it was on a medical site or something similar. If you do have a concern, don't make yourself crazy and get to your doctor

Speaking as a fellow who was diagnosed with this disorder years ago, by a doctor rather than an internet test, at first I had no idea how I could even have such a thing. It took me years to finally realize just how noticeable it was. But then again thinking back there were some definite signs that said I had it.
One example is that it took me years to learn how to tie my shoes. It seemed that no matter what I did I couldn't figure it out until one day it just clicked. I couldn't understand why back then it was so difficult for me to learn how to do what was considered such an easy task.
I also eventually realized that I have a tendency to ramble on at times whenever talking about something I have a particular interest in. For example whenever somebody brings up wrestling chances are I will interject and start spouting off as many pieces of trivia that come to mind about it. Sometimes I don't even realize how long I've been prattling on for until it's over.
There is a difference between being shy or antisocial and having Asperger's Syndrome. Don't trust that just because you took a test online that says you have it to be the determining factor you do indeed have it. I would definitely recommend you get yourself a real diagnosis just to be sure.

Only a doctor can diagnose you. I think that Internet tests can be helpful to an extent, but they are not a substitute for a medical professional.

I was diagnosed with a disorder abundantly similar to Asperger's. I seem to fit the criteria for Asperger's as well, but I won't be jumping to any conclusions.

Just an innocent question here: People seem to think it's really important to see a doctor for diagnosis, and I agree that it's the only reliable way to find out for sure (although what kind of doctor to see is a whole other question), but what is the actual benefit to finding out one way or the other?
