Actually I think the point as that the characters were all types: the lazy, sweet munching housewife, the miserable, downtrodden husband, the lecherous, hormone drive son, the loose, unintelligent blonde. The show was hardly realistic to begin with, so to take it remotely serious is kind of silly. that said, if I had Peg for a wife,it would have been a miracle to hold down a job at all between time in the bedroom. Oh, I know that, but still. I think my favorite episodes were often ones where they showed that Bundys can mess with Bundys, but outsiders putting them down is not tolerated, like Seven's birthday party(a highlight in an otherwise crappy period for the show), Yeah, at its core, the writers went out of their way to show that Al in particular really did love his family

This is true. There was the time Bud actually proposed to Kelly in Vegas. ...What? It was the one where Peg and Marcy went to Vegas. Kelly had a way to predict where the roulette wheel would stop, and Bud got on his knees and said 'Marry me, Kelly! Damn the law!" I remember reading even the actors were uncomfortable with that one.

Speaking of incest...
...given how much of a horndog Al was whenever he would see a scantily-clad woman, is anyone surprised that he didn't get a boner when Kelly would wear something revealing around him?

So Kelly gets revenge:

Actually they made comments that Al would whistle and shout boobies at a random girl on the street and later find out it was Kelly
