Ok, we're all probably sick to death of nonsensical Bieber bashing being inserted into every other YouTube comment. Thing is, that's not about Bieber's (alleged) overexposure- most of that is insecure wannabe "dudebro" guys trying to look badass and hip by targeting something they see as wussy or less than manly, in this instance Bieber's nonthreatening image.
And much like what the Jonas Brothers, N*SYNC, NKOTB, and hell, even what Titanic-era Leo got from guys when the quality of their work wasn't the topic of discussion*, it's a little weird sometimes- especially when the guy talking about how "ghey" they are is over the age of 23. I get boys thinking stuff like that at a certain age- I was quite the Hanson basher in junior high- but at some point one's gotta grow up. I didn't find their music offensively bad, so eventually I realized I was being silly.
As for those hysterical teenage girls squealing at the top of their lungs over said idol? No, I don't find them all that bothersome. If they're around 14, their world view is going to be fairly small, so obsessing about an actor or singer (positively, the more productive option) is a tad more understandable, especially since the girl will eventually move on.
Of course, this has been going on forever, as Rudolph Valentino received just as big a backlash from male audiences in his heyday, but it was still pretty sad then. Fortunately, I think that as ideas of what an acceptable guy image is evolves, it'll slowly fade away one day.
*- key point: I am not, repeat, am not talking about those who simply just don't like the output of those bands or actors. This is strictly about their images in popular culture.

I, too, hated BSB, N'SYNC, 98 Degrees, Hanson, and other acts of that nature as a kid (Except for the female acts, I didn't have a problem with them. They were hot and I am a sucker for female singers). However, later on, I grew to respect them more. I'll even admit that even back then when those groups were at the height of their popularity, I even liked some songs from those groups.
I never had a problem with Justin Bieber or The Jonas Brothers. Would I listen to them? I don't think so, but even if I did, why should I be judged for it? Even as a really little kid, I remember my sister going through an NKOTB phase and I was a little annoyed by it, but she, too, was a little girl at the time.
I said it before and I'll say it again: I absolutely loathe those "You say (Current artist) I say (Different artist)" comments on YouTube.

Me personally, beiber doesn't make me boil with rage but I can see why it would to a high schooler. In high school, your pretty much surrounded by teeny boppers, and see images of it everywhere. Even worse at the end of the week during lunch break when the music is played out in the open or some crappy, local radio station comes by and does it.
Teenagers is where most of the hate comes from and it sorta bleeds out the rest of society.

I respect their work, even though some of them are annoying, but I don't wish death on them because they made an annoying song or because it gets overplayed.

Masculinity is pretty frowned upon, especially by the academic and journalistic bourgeois.

I just watching grown men talking about a teenage boy with such rage. It's gotten to the point where I actually like bieber just because of how ruled up he gets people. It's hilarious.

Seconded.
I respected these types of groups/people for succeeding at what they did. I do like some of NSYNC's songs from way back when.
For me, it was moreso the fans that annoyed me than the performers themselves.

One argument I hear that I just don't get is when people talk about people such as JB's overexposure, and say they can't go anywhere without hearing/seeing him. Maybe I'm an outlier, but I barely hear/see him or any other pop idols. But then again, I don't have cable, I don't read gossip mags, and I don't listen to top 40 radio. So it's no wonder I don't see teen idols that much . It'd be like if I watched every WWE show, read every dirtsheet, subscribed to WWE magazine and PWI, and then complained about how I can't avoid John Cena.

You say Teen idol hatred is creepy, I say celebrity worship is creepy. Does everything have to be so black and white, though? Can't there be a shade of gray? I don't think there has to be two absolute camps regarding Justin Bieber: those who fawn over his every move, and those who wish death upon him at every possible moment. I think there is enough room in this crazy world of ours for those who are outright apathetic regarding Bieber. I can't really say I love any of his songs, but you can't argue that he's a wildly talented act. Whether or not you like what kind of music he makes is up for debate, but for his age, he's arguably one of the most talented people in music. I look at this in the same way I view the worship/hate of Tim Tebow. I like the guy, I respect him for his convictions and I admire his ability to perform under such immense pressure, but I'm not about to call him the NFL's most valuable player, or proclaim him to be the next Tom Brady. However, there are people who feel the need to bash him any chance they get, and when they are called on it, they say that they are only doing it to counter-balance those who worship him as if he is some sort of deity. Really? That's the best reason you have to actively root against another person? I can't stand people who argue that hating something purely because a group of people love it is a valid argument. It's not. It's spiteful, obnoxious, cruel and arrogant. What I'm saying is that we as a society don't have to absolutely love or absolutely hate anything, and if the only reason to hate something is because others love it is downright ridiculous. If you love something, love it for a valid reason, and if you hate something, hate it for a valid reason.

Tebow's a lot different. A lot of people hate him for reasons that are against board rules to discuss (his "convictions", as they were previously called).

To BRV: True, black and white extremes are bad to stick with, better to find a touch of grey.

I agree wholeheartedly with this topic. I've been saying this for years. People like Justin Bieber and the Jonas Brothers aren't being marketed to us adult males, so if you don't like it, it's not like you're bucking some kind of trend. It makes sense that a 27 year old guy wouldn't like Justin Bieber's music, but for him to hate the person and constantly bash the kid, is creep-diculous.
And it's not necessarily the case with Bieber, but the Jonas Brothers were good role models for the kids. We need more people with positive messages for the tweens, and less people trying to make them unhappy/bitter adults.
