I like her, too, but she can't make crappy material work like some can. Given how terrible the writers for SNL are nowadays, she isn't exactly being done any favors on that front. Get rid of Seth Myers as head writer. I've been saying this for a long time. I think he's decent at the update, but as far as head writing goes, he's responsible for what makes it to air and, well, he either isn't picking good material or the writers under him are pathetic. Maybe both.

I'm going to have to give it a couple of days to sink in, but I'm nearly ready to call it TV Comedy Event of the Year.
"Remedial Chaos Theory" is also in the running for that as well, but goooossssshhhh, that episode nailed my funny bone. I marked out hard for the quartet coming back, and the writing seemed to be at a new level. Tina Fey must've helped that week. Beethoven skit will likely go down as most underrated skit in recent SNL history for me. I can see it being one a lot of people forget, but I felt it was GOLDEN!

What was so "over the line" about the Tebow skit? Pretty tame, IMO. They went after him personally for having the balls to be openly religious. Nevermind the fact that having "Jesus" tell somebody to dial down the praise is wrong on so many levels.

Sounds like you might need to lighten up a bit and not get offended so easily. Samberg as Nic Cage was great. Such an over-the-top impression that gets me every time.

I also don't appreciate being told to lighten up and not get offended when a sensitive subject is poked fun at.

Ha, alright then, if you want to get worked up over a 5-minute sketch and take it this seriously, go for it.

In my opinion, either everything has the right to be made fun of or nothing does. Whether it's in good taste or not is a matter of opinion. Personally, I found nothing wrong with the skit, but to each his own.
Keeping on topic, the Tebow sketch was the only thing I watched from SNL last night. It was alright. Haven't watched SNL in a couple of years though. Just don't find it funny anymore, especially Wiig or Samberg.

He's said that God doesn't decide the outcome of football games.

One of the best sketches was when Sally Field hosted back in the day, and she was a super religious housewife who prayed for everything. Like for the coffee to be perfect, for the toast not being burnt, for the pots and pans to get clean, etc. And eventually God, played by Phil Hartman, comes in and tells her to cool it.

Just saw the Tebow sketch and thought it was pretty funny, when I originally heard what the sketch was going to be about I thought Tebow was going to give Jesus a BJ or something (being that it is SNL I wouldn't put it past them), so since that wasn't how it turned out it was pretty funny.

A comedy show shouldn't play with fire? I couldn't feel more opposite honestly. If comedy tried hard to please everyone/offend nobody, you'd end up with a watered-down version of what comedy is (Hi Jay Leno). Still though, while I don't get offended easily myself, I usually can see what someone may take offense to. But I thought the Tebow skit was pretty safe and tame (especially for SNL).

I don't know why, but I could really imagine Kenan Thompson as a Defensive player.

I rarely post, but i gotta say there is no such thing as a "sensitive subject" in comedy. If it didn't make you laugh then just fine and dandy

I saw it more as a dig at how football players and musicians really want to reach out god to help them a stupid game/award when there are much bigger problems in the world today that could use attention. It just makes those althletes/musicians looks asinine. Which is why they brought up the country music awards too.

There's a clip on hulu, that I can't find at the moment, where Alec Baldwin is hosting in the late 90's and Jimmy Fallon comes out in chains (like a host of SNL future type thing). He tells Baldwin that he'll becomes a huge star and hosts SNL in 2011.
I thought that was pretty funny how that worked out.

SNL is the show that blatantly used racial epithets with its Chevy Chase/Richard Pryor "Word Association" skit back in the day. The Tebow skit doesn't even come close to that.
