It seemed like such a cool idea at first and some of the pros had fun interactions with the rookies. It also made it seem like a big deal when rookies could score an upset win, and made the pros feel more important.
Some of the best combinations included
Daniel Bryan/The Miz Wade Barrett/Chris Jericho Kaval/Lay Cool Derrick Bateman/Daniel Bryan
I still think some superstars could be utilized well as pros. I just find it kinda disappointing they dropped the concept. With a lot of lower card guys on here like Tyson Kidd why not have them be pros? A NXT season with big name pros again could be great. How bout Cena, Orton, or Santino as pros?

Tyson Kidd was a pro during NXT Redemption, that's part of the reason he was such a prominent part of it. Same thing with Yoshi Tatsu and JTG. It's just that their rookies were eliminated/released.
I wished Daniel Bryan did more during NXT Redemption, but he did very little in general when he had the MiTB. It would've been a good idea if he was still appearing on NXT during his WHC reign and gloating over the fact that he was the only NXT guy to win a World Championship.
Even though he was far from a rookie, they should've put Ryder on NXT. He's young, and Cena could've been his "pro". This would've allowed at least some storyline reason for why Ryder & Cena were buddies all of a sudden.
I would really like to see Dolph Ziggler as his brother Briley Pierce's pro. Because I always though Briley would be perfect as Dolph's Edgehead/Ricardo.

The only two times I felt the pros were good additions to the show were in season 1 and season 4. Season 1 being the best, because everyone had legit 10+ years experience except for one pro, who had a rookie with 10+ years of experience.
The concept of being a rookie was a big mistake, because it made the guys "less then" the other wrestlers. WWE I think has done this for such a long time, on top of having a rough midcard, where now a good chunk of the roster are losers.
I was also surprised to learn that Justin Gabriel actually was the rookie with the most experience and not Daniel Bryan.
