I'm watching this for the 1st time on FX as we speak. 10 minutes in and my nerd rage is already at 85% and rising fast. Nearly everything is wrong! The only thing right so far is that Piccolo is green. The characters, motivations, story, & timeline are all WRONG! I knew it would be bad and would only be Dragonball in name only, but seeing what they've done to it actually hurts my soul. My inner child is weeping right now.
I had no idea it would wound me this much. Why did they do this to my Dragonball? I actually want to hit something!

I can let go of the errors of mythology, but the acting, dear god the acting, was horrid, especially Goku. The only guy who looked like he bothered was Yun Fat.

Never saw it, and thought a lot of the complaining about changing stuff in the story was silly; it's to be expected.
That said, I'm sure it's a horrid movie all on it's own.

BTW, I saw this along with Legend of Chun-Li. As bad as Dragonball may be, it's at least serviceable, unlike Legend.

That's why I swore to myself I would never watch this movie. I've heard so many changes that they did, and it just baffles me.
Now some movies I've watched did okay with changes (Watchmen), but it sounds like they just put the Dragonball name to this movie and just made it completely random.

Dragonball should be a goddamn no-brainer to adapt.
The cheap Chinese knock-off was better!

I watched it and hated it, but really, how the hell are you supposed to make Dragonball into a live action movie? Theres so much weird shit going on and then you have to realise Dragonball is by FAR the most normal of all 3 series.

They could have done it the way Scott Pilgrim VS The World was done, that was silly and over the top as Dragonball.

I didn't think it was possible, but Yamcha actually made me hate this even more. This is beyond redemption. Not even Bulma's nude scenes from the anime could save it.

Finally we get to the best part of the movie: the credits. Man...I'm writing a letter to the studio. Somebody owes me & every DB fan out there an apology. My voice is starting to go due to me screaming at the TV. I've never been THIS mad at a movie and I was almost thrown out of a theater showing X-Men Origins: Wolverine (Kinda threw a fit when I saw what they had the balls to call "Deadpool"). I'll never look at Dragonball the same way ever again.
I need a drink...

Emmy Rossum was the only thing that kept me watching this abomination.

i watched the movie once, never again, sucked so bad, it's okay if you have no idea what dragon ball is, but otherwise, freaking lame.
Vegeta is my favorite character, I'm glad they didn't put him in the movie.

I've not seen the movie, but from what I briefly read about it and saw in pictures at the time of its release it seemed like it somehow managed to neglect every element of the franchise that could be considered appealing. And that's kind of astounding considering how simple DB/DBZ is.

Thing is, TV show to movie format is INCREDIBLY difficult to do. You're talking dozens of episodes crammed into a 90-150 (if you're lucky) minute time frame. Plus you have flicks like this, that change so much of the story that fans just couldn't care less, or flicks like The Last Airbender, which try to stick SO closely to the TV show that it just gives up on minor details...like GIVING THE CHARACTERS PERSONALITIES.
It's why I wish more directors who adapt TV shows to movies would just take the source material, change the story around as they see fit, but aim for just two things: keep the protagonist's inner conflict and development the same, and keep the characterizations similar to the source material. Go ahead and change a million things: put Goku in high school, make Optimus Prime a different vehicle, I don't care, but keep the damn spirit of the original there.

I'm willing to give this movie a chance based on the fact I know absolutely nothing about the whole Dragonball series. Maybe I'll find it watchable in that way, very much the way I enjoyed the Last Airbender movie. The only memorable thing I've come to understand in the whole series is that apparently a dog is the king of the universe. I'm very much hoping that they kept this particular element for the movie version. I'm just waiting for this to come out on Netflix.
