The painting looks like the side of a bloody cow anyway.

Maybe I'm out of touch but why is this. . . Worth $30 million It's shit. . . It's just like somebodies hurled some paint onto a canvas and called it a day.

Because modern art can get so ridiculous these days, I can take a crap on a bit of paper, stamp on it, and I'd become a millionaire. Actually, what am I waiting for?

My fiancee paints, and when I mentioned this to her, and showed her the painting in question, she joked that ass prints could only improve it. She's kind of...snobby, about modern art.

I take it back. That little dab of mustard yellow in the corner... I now see the artist's intent. It's a comment about how we all may look like bloody cows, deep down there's something bright and this is stupid.

I don't get modern art at all. Art for me is pictures, paintings and portraits of things whether it be people, cartoons, comic book art or landscape/scenery paintings. Not a bunch of random colours slapped onto a canvas. I remember going to an art museum on a school trip and there was a piece on display called 'Blank Canvas' which was exactly what it says on the tin. A piece of blank canvas in a frame which was somehow considered museum worthy. Honestly, I like the work of posters on deviantart much more than I do some of the nonsense that is somehow worth $30 million like the above piece of drivel. I'd rather have that famous Big Show with Walrus moustach picture that crops up in every wrestling art thread on my wall than this splatter of paint on a canvas.

I kind of agree with you, although I think there are rare cases where an abstract piece of art could come up looking very unique and interesting, but those would be the exception and I don't care much for this particular piece (the pre-butt rubbed version that is). There's another side of the coin too, which is that if someone paints a tree or something they might be a skilled painter but they're not really doing anything special that any other painter couldn't do. There's a fine line, I personally think the best art tends to be a best of both worlds kind of thing where a very interesting visual image is also skillfully painted and/or cleverly presented.
