And we wonder why the United States has a problem with so many people wanting to come in from Mexico. Seriously, we need immigration reform in this country yesterday, too many lives are at risk here.
That being said, clearly, we have a security problem in Mexico. I can only say do whatever you can reasonably to secure your family. And as soon as possible, see what can be done to legally immigrate north. Worse comes to worse, seeing as there are lives at stake, see what can be done through the American consul about moving your girlfriend's mother to the United States for her safety and the well being of the unborn child.
It's all I can think of, short of sending the 101st Airborne into Mexico City.

I don't think it's possible to solve the problem by taking in all the non-criminals from a large neighboring country, though. Without law-abiding citizens to parasitize, the criminals are gonna move north, too. They're always going to need prey. I think the solution is more to promote order so that people don't HAVE to feel like they're living in a lawless country that can't protect their rights.

Unfortunately I can't move, I work in a high school and I just can't leave all that behind, also, neither my girlfriend or her mom have passports or any kind of immigration documents.

I don't think America should be going around trying to solve other people's problems though. Isn't that what happened with Vietnam?

Are you implying all the violence we see in immigrant communities and gang violence in America is from criminals sneaking in? Because that is not true. Poverty in America is way more of a factor.

Worse comes to worse, seeing as there are lives at stake, see what can be done through the American consul about moving your girlfriend's mother to the United States for her safety and the well being of the unborn child. The only thing they'd get is laughed out of the building... I know people are trying to be supportive but a lot of the opinions expressed in this thread are woely ignorant of what life is really like outside of this country. And don't even get me started on immigration, let's just say there are a lot of people with no sympathy for other human beings. Please for the love of god don't get a gun. You live in Mexico I'm sure you can think of all the terrible ways that would be a bad idea. I doubt the self defense case would fly with the police, and that's best case scenario. I don't even want to think of the retaliation that could come. I'm just going to go before I start getting too political.

WHY ARE YOU POSTING THIS?! CALL THE POLICE. I live in Mexico, there is no police here. I started reading this and was like "Holy crap, where are you? Mexico?" Then I looked at your profile. Yeah, Mexico has gotten crazy with this kind of crap and no one does anything about it.

Hardly, rather we have an illegal immigration problem from refugees fleeing for their lives from the violence. As for this country not being able to support refugees, funny, didn't seem to be a problem at the turn of the last century when a healthy percentage of Eastern Europe came flooding in. Oh wait, let me guess... is the issue skin color, perhaps?

I've said this before, Brighteyes, I really hope you and your family can find a way out of there. I know it's not feasible, but I get worried about you, hermano.

Are you implying all the violence we see in immigrant communities and gang violence in America is from criminals sneaking in? Because that is not true. Poverty in America is way more of a factor. I don't see how you could have interpreted that post in that way. He's saying that people sneak into this country every day because Mexico has become a terrible place to live. The standard of living there is so low, that they're willing to risk their lives and freedom just to escape it. Granted, I feel like it's probably unfair to generalize and say "Mexico" like that. It's a large country and I feel like the violence is probably only really bad in certain areas, but where it's bad, it's BAD. EDIT: I think you quoted the wrong post or something. There was a reply in reference to the one you quoted that is more relevant to what you said. Mr. Brightside, I'm glad you feel that you're all "fine" now but dude...seriously...to say there's not a problem anymore is insane. At least, it sounds insane from this side of the border. There is at least one problem, your girlfriend has family members that are violently robbing people, and for some reason they didn't even know that they were family to her...wtf?

They knew, but they didn't care, it's easier stealing to people you know where they live and that are related, it's sad but here it's normal; and even with all that, we are fine, because here, worst things happen to innocent people, so this incident is a blessing, they could have been the really bad guys and probably I wouldn't be talking right now with you guys.

I am a little worried myself. I know an American who went down there not long after high school, joined a cartel, and did time for human trafficking. Kinda hoping he has no interest in hanging out.

It sounds sad but the true is, if you ever work with a cartel, no matter how little the work you do is, you will never leave it behind.

What the hell are you doing in Mexico?
It's the worst country on Earth. I hate being near it. And this is coming from an El Pasoan.
