There is a disturbing amount of casual misogyny in not just fighting game circles, but gaming as a whole. There are a lot of upstanding, awesome people in the FGC and this Aris dickhead doesn't represent them at all. But for every awesome person, there's some twit who hears a female voice on Xbox Live and starts making all sorts of "Yeah I'm gonna rape you!" or "Go back to the kitchen you fat ugly slut!" or something else equally disgusting.

I think 85% of those people would yell "Yeah, I'm gonna rape you!" at a male opponent too, oddly enough.

as someone who considers himself a member of the FGC, this crap got so out of hand it makes me lose faith in humanity. yes, one guy is accountable for thousands of people... give me a break. y'know, I've literally been losing sleep over all this drama. like I can keep telling people "we're not all like that I swear!" I could point them to all the articles about people trying to make the community better from inside, but no one cares. Everyone just wants to make up their mind about the one thing, go away, and then complain about the next thing. By tuesday everyone will forget about this and complain about some jackass making homophobic comments about mass effect 3. tis the way the world works I'm afraid. Already happened(somewhat). YouTube Users Are Currently Mostly Hating Mass Effect 3’s Gay Male Sex Scene

Belittling of online opponents is nothing new. And female gamers do get it worse. Why do you think most of them pose as guys? But this guys sounds like a real piece of work. And I mean "should be on a register" piece of work. as someone who considers himself a member of the FGC, this crap got so out of hand it makes me lose faith in humanity. yes, one guy is accountable for thousands of people... give me a break. y'know, I've literally been losing sleep over all this drama. like I can keep telling people "we're not all like that I swear!" Though I do wonder how many fans would be complaining if the female Shepard could have a sex scene with a female character. Can they? I dunno.

Yea, it's pretty bad, my tag partner in brawl was a female, and it got heated a few times. Mostly thinking they can say things online in person and not thing they are going to get hit.

Okay that is ridiculous. Let me just empahise that part. giving their players a choice of who they want to be.You don't want a gay Shepard then don't have one. They don't see that. They don't want them icky queers anywhere near their game! It threatens their VERY SECURE masculinity, you see. Except for lesbians. Lesbians are awesome.

That makes me wonder. Has any game had a homosexual protaganist? Because I can't think of one off the top of my head. And I mean confirmed gay. So Squall doesn't count. Oh and I also mean a choice on behalf of the developers. So stuff like The Sims don't count either.
Even in GTA: The Ballad of Gay Tony, the Tony of the title was a support character. Though at least Rockstar finally had a gay man who wasn't a flaming stereotype.

Between this and the recent "female BioWare writer" controversy, it just seems the gaming world is filled with these stories these days. It's extremely sad that a few idiots with loud mouths are giving the entire industry (mostly those that play what the industry produces) a bad reputation.

Maybe that Mass Effect video really is so hated due to the acting; many love/sex scenes in games are awkward, portrayed in an immature way or badly animated. Or maybe they were embarrassed when their significant other/parent walked in during the scene.
If I rated such videos I'd dislike Fahrenheit’s heterosexual sex scene/mini-game.
Oh alright I know that's not why it's getting so many dislikes.

The rumor surrounding him tends to be that he's secretly dead, not secretly gay. Now Sora and Riku? Nomura doesn't need to confirm that.

Not surprised since most fighting games has large breasted women in 5% clothes as their fighters. With that, your going to get every retarded sexist people playing them and have stupid shit like this as well.

Because it's one I've heard a lot and one that actually makes a whole of sense. I mean Squall spends a good third of the game being obsessed with Seifer and only ends up with Rinoa because the script says so.

The romance was pretty clearly defined from the dance at the SeeD ball. It wasn't like they just pulled it out of their ass at the 11th hour or something, they keep going back to it. For this to work, you would have to read Squall's antagonistic rivalry with Seifer as romantic tension, and disregard the Rinoa subplot entirely. While this is basically slash-fic 101 in a nutshell, it feels like a bit of a stretch.

He's not accountable for thousands of people, but that still doesn't make it okay. Like I said before and others have discussed, it's not exclusive to fighting games, this is widespread in online gaming. Why shouldn't this guy be made an example for his behaviour?

No Ike ending pairs him with a woman romantically, and they can leave together for parts unknown for their own new adventures. Granted, you can do the same with Ranulf, but Ranulf never got a scene where {Spoiler}Soren and Ike reminisce, hold each other close and Soren cries into his shoulder. It... it was pretty hard not to read it as a romance thing.

So my question about canonically gay video game protagonists led to discussion of slash pairings? Okay then.

Maybe that Mass Effect video really is so hated due to the acting; many love/sex scenes in games are awkward, portrayed in an immature way or badly animated. Yeah, I'm with you on this. I'm not really a fan of the Mass Effect and BioWare romances either (heterosexual, homosexual or otherwise) because a good percentage of them are actually really awkward --- especially the way you build up to them in conversation. I think Tali's is one of the only that actually sticks out in my mind as being something more than "let's go to bed" but the vast majority are just strange. ...just don't tell the BSN forum people I said that, half of their activity is talking about romances and many of those topics are as awkward as the scenes themselves.

So my question about canonically gay video game protagonists led to discussion of slash pairings? Okay then. Sort of, because it's damn hard to think of one where it's the protagonist, not just a side character or a multiple choice answer. Though I just now finally thought of one: the female main character in Fear Effect was at the very least bisexual.
