Because it's all leading to Del Rio leading Team Future Endeavored against Cena Team WWE at Survivor Series, and Del Rio needs motivation.

I say this as someone who likes ADR, it was a stupid decision to give him the title in the first place. For as big of a push the WWE has given him, he's not that over. And it's made worse when he wins the title after Cena vs Punk. Cena, Punk and Triple H are by far the most over guys on Raw, and then they have del Rio take the title from Punk. After that Cena went after him, and Cena was taken out of Punk's current storyline. That hurt del Rio.

I’m guessing they didn’t want him to win the belt in the first place and regretted giving him the briefcase, they couldn’t have him lose his cash-in without ruining his future credibility so used him to add fuel to the CM Punk vs HHH(/Nash) feud.
Or maybe this is just what they like doing with first time champions these days.

I understand it since they had a lot of competition that day and I guess they didn't want to risk people not caring about a cheap obvious win by Del Rio.

Yes, because the NFL just can't compete with John Cena as the WWE Champion
Oh, wait...

Because "10-Time WWE Champion" sounds better than "11-Time World Champion" or "9-Time WWE Champion" So does that mean this'll be his last WWE title reign so we can keep it at an even 10?

I don't see why they had to rush Del Rio into a title run. Maybe they thought because he beat Punk people would really hate him. But its more like 'meh not really interested in what's on RAW atm'. WWE shot themselves in the foot

I get the feeling they gave ADR the title in the first place because they teased him with it enough and as a way to give John Cena the title. And do it without Cena beating Punk and causing an uproar among the fans. Which is terrible justification for giving someone the belt.

So, after giving him the MitB, they just got the title reign out of the way (kicking off the Triple H/Punk feud in the process) so that they could chill out his push for a while and, hopefully, build him up to the main event more naturally.

Yes, because the NFL just can't compete with John Cena as the WWE Champion Oh, wait... No indeed, "Cenas ratings ALONE are enough to keep wwe afloat for the next few decades". My answer is the same as the other guy,Because it's cena.

This is asking a question as if main eventers in WWE lose cleanly all the time.
Which they don't, and never have.
But it's horrible because it's Cena.

I think the real question is why bother having him lose it to begin with? The whole thing just feels like calling "do over" on the past few months.

WWE booking 101: When in doubt, put the belt on Cena.
They will never manage to create new superstars this way.

The WWE can't be this jaded with Cena.
Hulk Hogan turned heel. Steve Austin turned heel. The Rock turned heel. Yet, John Cena's merchandise sales are far too valuable to turn him heel (if Cena sold more or even as much merch as Hogan, Austin, and Rock I would be very surprised).
Now, one ratings dip and they go back to Cena as if he is a huge draw. The WWE has been drawing the same amount of viewers since 2002. Cena has done nothing. No one has done anything. Some times ratings improve, some times they dip. Some times buyrates improve, some times they don't. After eight years of data I would assume by now they realize Cena makes very little difference from a TV standpoint (ratings/buyrates). They drew over 1 million buys for WM with Miz main eventing. The WWE brand is the draw, not Cena. If ratings dip, it's the WWE's fault, not any individual.

I really hope they don't do another switch at HIAC, I'm so tired of these pointlessly short title reigns.
Just keep it on Cena until like January or February. Who cares if he has no one to feud with, it's still better than this alternative.
At this rate, by this time next year Cena will probably be on reign 24 or 25.

Cena gets number 16 or 17 in Charlotte. Better yet, both.
Book it, WWE.

Wouldn't make any sense, because for whatever ratings bump you get, cutting off the "chase" with a two week build leading into the next show, would kill buys for the PPV.

I agree on both counts. It was so painfully obvious WWE wanted the success of the Cena/Punk angle rub off on ADR. Like these two said, he wasn't (and still isn't) over enough to be involved in this angle, and it diluted both the angle and ADR. Night of Champions was the first time I ever remember actively cheering for Cena to win the belt. That's how bland I find ADR at the moment. ADR isn't beyond repair. He's a really good in-ring wrestler that needs to step up his mic game. In a year or two, he could be a serious main-eventer. I hate when WWE refuses to take it's time with guys who clearly aren't ready for the main spotlight (last year Jack Swagger is another example). Alberto Del Rio will get there, but they need to give him time and stop force-feeding him to the fans and let them accept him naturally.
