What about Men in Black 3? It has the most money worldwide of the 3 movies. That's not counting inflation and 3D surcharges. IMO, every movie released in 3D should have an asterisk next to it's box office total. But don't you find that a little confusing? I mean if that is the case, did Avengers really break all those records? Avatar as well? Yes, I realize that Gone with the Wind is the highest grossing movie inflation wise, but I couldn't even tell you the top 5 when putting inflation into consideration. Plus, times have changed so I don't see movies of today have to be penalized for that.

Top 5 of all time adjusted for inflation 1. Gone with the Wind 2. Star Wars (or Episode IV - A New Hope if you prefer) 3. The Sound of Music 4. E.T.: The Extra Terrestrial 5. Titanic But don't you find that a little confusing? I mean if that is the case, did Avengers really break all those records? Avatar as well? Adjusted numbers really are number of tickets sold overall, which I believe is far more impressive. Look at it this way, I think its looks better to sell 10 tickets at $5 a piece than 5 at $10 a piece (even though they both add to $50).

Those older films were also in theaters for MUCH longer runs (The Graduate, for example, was in theaters for over a year) and had much less competition. Many of them were also re-released a few times over the years. In the end, you simply can't compare monetary things from the past with current things. It's like when old folks complain about bread that doesn't cost 5 cents anymore. It cost five cents because the average income was like $5000 a year. Prices go up, but it was probably still a rough equivalent. Of course, in a simpler world, we'd just be content with Gone With The Wind, Titanic and The Avengers being huge hits that appealed to tons of people, but hey. Everything's a competition.

I'm curious to see how Savages does in a couple of weeks. Could be it for Taylor Kitsch (of Death). If this one bombs, he could be done. It doesn't bode well for the film that Oliver Stone gave him the part based on his performance as a leading man in Battleship.

Are we really penalizing old movies for anything if we look at grosses? It's not like we're going back in time and taking money out of the box-office tills if we don't count for inflation when looking at a movie now. Those movies made a lot of money when they came out, they're not going to make any more or make any less if we discuss gross vs. ticket sales.

It doesn't bode well for the film that Oliver Stone gave him the part based on his performance as a leading man in Battleship. If that one bombs, he's definitely not getting any lead roles any time soon, unless it is in an indie film. Three big budget bombs in one year? Yeah, that would almost guarantee a career of supporting roles for a few years at least.

Something I consider to be a good thing. In a perfect world, Sandler would realize he needs to actually start giving a damn again and stop settling on making crappy movies

I'm disappointed only because of Andy Samburg. Guy can't catch a break movie wise He should stop taking crappy movie roles then If Andy had a chance it would have been with Sandler. I'd say people were tired of the SNL star formula, but Bridemaids was super huge. It has been a real interesting weekend. Tom Cruise and Adam Sandler are two of Hollywood's most bankable stars. Looking forward to seeing "Spider-Man" on Monday night (even throwing off my sleep schedule a bit to do it). I'm torn though. Part of me wants it to succeed because I want Spidey to be a name brand hero again but another part of me wants it to fail in hopes Sony gives it back to Marvel.

Forecast (June 29-July 1) 1. Brave - $35.2 million (-47%) 2. Magic Mike - $31.5 million 3. Ted - $28.3 million 4. Madea's Witness Protection - $23.1 million The good news for your forecast is Magic Mike is looking at $12m for today right now, according to Deadline. The bad news for your forecast is Ted is looking at $20m for today. Otherwise, those numbers are pretty spot on for now.

Fandango was reporting that a bit over 50% of their advance ticket orders for the weekend were for Magic Mike.

I'm shocked at how well Ted and Magic Mike are doing. I thought this would be a really down weekend for movies, and that doesn't seem to be the case at all.
It's not just women and gay men going to see Magic Mike, either.
I'm happy to see it, because I like people involved with both movies.
I don't feel comfortable going to see Magic Mike in theaters, but because it's such a huge hit, I won't feel bad waiting for Netflix.
I'll probably check out Ted in theaters some time tho.
