I've just now started watching HUSTLE several years after the fact and obviously, since I don't speak a syllable of Japanese, there's a lot that is lost on me. I like the matches, the wrestlers, and the gimmicks but there's a whole cosmic crap ton that I'm totally clueless about.
So there's an M. Bison guy who runs the heel stable and they are fighting against a.....loose collection of faces?
The Monster stable has...lots of monsters. So far there's a red one, yellow one, a green leopard print piranha, and I think a purple vampire.
One guy looks like a total bad ass but his tights say "I'm Chicken". Not sure what to make of that one.
Masato Tanaka has a group of guys who do a jig with lots of ladies to a J-Pop version of Offspring.
Giant Silva had a match and it was actually not bad. Couldn't believe that one myself.
I'm trying to piece all of this together but for the life of me I have no idea what is going on. It doesn't stop my enjoyment of the shows, I like the matches a lot. But I feel like I'm missing out on something.

The M. Bison guy is General Takada aka Nobuhiko Takada. He was the head and main star of UWFi, the worked shoot style submission wrestling promotion. They did an interpromotional angle with New Japan and were basically destroyed in the process. He had some terrible real fights in PRIDE. HUSTLE was owned by the same company.
"I'm Chicken" is Naoya Ogawa. He was an Olympian in Judo and Antonio Inoki brought him into pro wrestling.
The Offspring guys would be "Team No Respect". They were a stable in FMW.
I think the story is basically...Takada is evil and has a bunch of monsters. Originally it was something like Takada bringing in PRIDE fighters to destroy pro wrestling and then someone took acid.

I still maintain that someone should fan-sub HUSTLE shows. That'd be great.

HUSTLE was billed as "Pro-Wrestling Opera". It's basically a non-serious Japanese spoof of WWE.
The over-arching storyline is that Takada wants to dominate HUSTLE but the babyfaces are resisting so Takada has his Monster Army plus other mercenaries to fight them. There were a couple non Monster Army storylines going on here and there with people fighting for random reasons, but it all comes back to Takada vs HUSTLE.
But the important thing to remember is that HUSTLE was a comedy promotion. The next person who takes it seriously would be the first.

I'm curious about that myself. I've always wondered if Awesome Kong was originally named because of something to do with Aja Kong. I know they squared off in the ring as opponents at least once because I saw a match on video, but that's all I know about a connection between the two.

There was an erotic terrorist named YinLing who gave bird to an egg containing Akebono after Great Muta spat green mist on her nether regions.
Thanks cracked.com!

Yes, Awesome Kong got the Kong name from Aja Kong as a sign of respect and they later teamed up as Double Kong. That wasn't in HUSTLE though.

I thought Awesome Kong got her name from the Colossal Kongs of early 90's WCW fame. It didn't occur to me she got it from Aja Kong until after I had started watching Hustle a few days ago.
