I have a feeling this thread may not last long, but I recommend anyone who is reading this link do some more research on the case before jumping to a conclusion. While you may ultimately reach the conclusion you would have come to after reading the attached link, take the time to read more articles about it than just this one.
While the entire ordeal isn't pretty, and I think it's pretty clear that there was a lot of wrong done, this article is just painting such an unbelievably one-sided aspect of the story. Sure, everything listed is a fact, but they are really painting the "hero" and "villain" roles pretty bluntly.
I think the worst part of that list of facts is the following:
Weight has nothing to do with anything in a fight. I outweigh B.J. Penn by a few pounds here and there, but I'm pretty sure that in a fight, he'd beat me so bad, my ancestors would feel it.

At first, I didn't know what this about, until I read the link.
Yeah, this very sad and Zimmerman needs to be arrested.

Yeah, I read the Yahoo story and it's pretty biased as well. I hate how media types love to cling to stories like these.

Yes.
For the sake of civility, I'll keep it at that.

I say this having been a crime reporter. Sometimes, the facts of the case just make it impossible to objectively report on what's going on without it seeming biased. The only way to balance it out would be to interject your own conjecture, or conjecture from sources that really don't have anything to do with the story. This is one of those cases where the facts as they are right now really just make the story look unbalanced, but there's no way to fix that. I'm sure, especially with national media, that they may present certain stories differently to get more attention. But I know from the local level and the big national crime story I had to cover that sometimes it really is about just having the bare facts in the case that make someone look bad. Have a link from a less contemptable source? Here's an article that I think is a little more well rounded, but again, all stories will seem biased just because of the information available.

Red Impact nailed it. The story sounds unbalanced because those are the facts. You don't just but positive things about the shooter in there to keep from looking biased.
This Zimmerman dude sounds like a real asshole. That's all I can really say.

Have a link from a less contemptable source? ThinkProgress are merely reporting the facts of the case. Whatever you may extrapolate from that is a projection of your own biases and conclusions. For me, this case couldn't be clearer. We have a man with a history of harassing others and who has called the police 40+ times in the last year alone. He was told explicitly not to follow or approach Trayvon and ignored the instructions of the police operator. I'm glad that they are attempting to get the FBI involved because the Sanford Police department have made an absolute disaster of this.

I didn't read the whole article, but why was some jackoff neighborhood watch guy armed? I don't think a good answer exist for that question. This is a guy who got collared for assaulting a police officer; why he was legally (I use the word loosely) allowed to play cop, let alone being allowed to have a 9mm, is beyond me.

Everything about this kid's death pisses me off. It was avoidable and shouldn't have happened, but some nut job decided to ignore the police operator and go up to a harmless kid with a loaded gun because, as he put it, "These a**holes always get away". Just disgusting.

Facts are facts. Every article I've read has said that he shot and killed an unarmed kid who posed no threat to him and ignored the advice of a police dispatcher. He should be arrested and charged with 2nd degree murder. End of.

why he was legally [...] allowed to have a 9mm, is beyond me. Such is the problem of a lack of serious gun control in the states. Of course, by gun control, I do not mean that nobody is allowed to have a gun but that extensive background checks into ones criminal history - as well as medical history, specifically, mental health - need to become much stricter. As it stands, if someone wants to get their hands on a gun in the US, they shouldn't run into too much difficulty.

Every time I read or see anything about this case, I get more and more pissed off and saddened.
That could've happened to me or any male in my family.
What gives the right of some wannabe cop to chase this kid down the block, confront him, and shoot him?
I'm the same age as Zimmerman, and if I had shot and killed someone, I would be arrested.
People talk about the blood that was on Zimmerman's lip from the struggle. You know who else had blood on them? Trayvon, only the blood was in his lungs and throat because he was shot in the chest!

It's interesting that the "stand your ground" act is now being called into question in this case. I recall a few months back a Florida teen stabbed another student to death after he was bullied near a bus stop, but he was found not guilty, with the "stand your ground" act being the primary defense.

What I think would hurt Zimmerman here if he tried that is that Zimmerman wasn't approached by Martin. The Stand Your Ground act exists so people can defend themselves when they are attacked, not so you can antagonize people and then shoot them if they fight back. I only know the details of the case that have been released now, but from what it seems, that wasn't the case.

Why is it so important that he was carrying a bag of skittles and an iced tea? THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS "He's carrying a bag of skittles" "Well that's harmles-" "No wait.....It's sour skittles!" "Dear god" On the serious end, I just do not understand how he was not arrested or at least detained, I have no idea why the police are protecting the guy so bad. Well I do, but that's a different bag of skittles.
