Who best exemplifies what a babyface is supposed to be? Is it the "hero" like Cena or a guy the crowd gets behind like Zack Ryder? Who would you consider a babyface that fans can actually get behind? How about Air Boom; are they good at exemplifying the old school babyfaces, unless you count Kofi's destruction of RKO's car? Yoshi Tatsu could be an excellent face and so could Ted Dibiase and Sin Cara (if he wasn't injured) if the former two could be booked better as they are talented? Are there any babyfaces that deserve to be rooted for? ( In other words, they are actually not douchebags?) Would Booker T count?

At the moment, it's hard to be more white-bread and heroic with no other actual traits than Sheamus and Air Boom.

That is true. Sheamus is quite rootable nowadays and not annoying or has done some cold blooded things as of late.

Supposed to be?
Zack Ryder. Ryder is such an old school face its surreal.
-Happy go lucky smiley guy. -Own set of catchphrases. -Crowd popper move (Broski Boot) -Signature Taunt -Defining piece of merchandise (Broski shirt or headband) -Sympathetic figure

I don't think there's any one thing a face is "supposed" to be.

I don't think there's any one thing a face is "supposed" to be. Pretty much this. I mean Stone Cold and Hogan are basically polar opposites and they are two of the biggest faces in the history of the world.

Bret Hart in the mid-90's is my go-to main face archetype:
-Charitable and good-willed to the fans -Makes the save for other good guys -Takes no shit from heels -Always willing to prove himself -Doesn't cheat in matches but isn't a goody two-shoes if his opponent bends the rules first -No-nonsense and considers wrestling an art

For one thing a face's pandering to the crowd is supposed to be believable. Remember his "If you want..... gimme a hell yeah!" DId anyone think a hell no would stop him from doing what he wanted to do? Cena's character is the essence of what a face is supposed to be

Depends on who's asking. If Vince is asking the question, then John Cena or Rocky Maivia (when he first debuted) are the perfect faces, despite them getting 'you suck' chants every night.
For fans: Sheamus, Santino and Ryder types. People who are charismatic on the mic, funny, and who you feel satisfied and happy when they win a match. There's a huge X-factor to this, as some people get cheered and some people get dead silence (i.e. Morrison), so it's hard to say anything more clear about the ones that fans find 'face-worthy).
Smart fans: Daniel Bryan and CM Punk, because they can put on very entertaining WRESTLING matches and have paid their dues in the business and earned respect throughout their careers. These are the people who *should* be the faces of the WWE, in many smart fans' eyes, even if they don't get cheered by the WWE Universe as much (CM Punk just recently broke through as did Benoit and Eddy Guerrero before him, but it's a rare occurence and Punk was almost let go before he caught on).

Agreed on both Bret and Bryan. Bret was my first name when I saw the thread title. Wish Bryan was that way though.

Though, to be fair, Bryan hasn't exactly been a heel after the cash-in, and remained his same good guy self.
