Was there an actual plan for Punk joining the New Breed? They couldn't have been going with that DESTROY IT FROM WITHIN IN LESS THAN 2 WEEKS angle the whole time right?

I firmly believe that this was the plan the whole time actually. Either that or they hated how fans shit on the turn and quickly undid it.

I believe it was going to lead to that not really a heel swerve the entire time.
Maybe since people didn't like it they sped it up, but I believe that was ultimately the end game.

I thought they rushed it because they knew Benoit was coming to ECW, so they were getting ready for the Punk/Benoit build, so the new breed became an after thought.

It really wouldn't have mattered because the New Breed seemed to be destined to fall apart anyway, with Elijah Burke pissing off management, Cor Von leaving the company to care for his family, and Striker and Thorne were not enough to carry the stable.

What's this about Elijah Burke and management issues?

I was suspicious about that angle from the very beginning. Any "heel turn" that involves joining a group without attacking a babyface or a dramatic reveal strikes me as fishy.

I'm still confused why the ECW ORIGINALS wanted CM Punk to join them anyway.

The camera cut to Burke as he was in the middle of talking about how dumb the Diva search was and how much they were getting paid. You'd think he'd been smarter since it was live and the camera were always on.

I thought it was just...weird. Like, Punk still had his momentum going, gets in the ring, doesn't attack RVD, then shakes hands with the New Breed. It felt like they missed a step there by not having Punk beat down Rob even worse. I guess 'empty' is a good way to put it.
