Batman is in, Superman is out. Tony Stark is in, Steve Rogers is out. That's one of the best assessments of the Punk/Cena shift I've heard yet. If the fans turn on Cena, why the HELL would your solution be to replace him with... another John Cena? This is even ignoring the pact that John Cena has become THE white-meat babyface, by now surpassing even Hogan in his goody two shoes-ness, and so anyone you would get would likely be a WATERED DOWN John Cena simply tying to fill that role (which is what I'm deathly afraid they're going to turn Zack Ryder into)

CM Punk if they have any sense. Ryder could develop in the future, but I think it's some years off yet. Miz is a definite possibility. Also, depending on how long Cena sticks around, Bo Rotundo and his pretty pretty hair

WWE appeals to such a wide audience, so it'd be smart of them to provide a figurehead for different demos, or at least for them to use a 1A/1B top face formula.

Does that mean that 2021 Ryder is gonna be 2011 Cena and we are gonna be hearing "LET'S GO RYDER/ RYDER SUCKS" chants? For some reason, I don't think Ryder will be around by 2021. Not sure why, but it's just a feeling I get.

That'd be assuming the higher-ups would accept a storyline like that. I always figured the important people were too inside their wrestling bubble to pay attention to pop-culture in general. Especially when it comes to booking their own damn version of Superman.
...of course if that's the story they're following, that just means the Cena hate will be back in full swing when 2013 hits.

This is going to sound pretty far out there, but I can see Jack Swagger as a top hero face in WWE. Despite his horrible booking the past few tears, the guy is still a freakish athlete with great size and skill, and I can see him playing a legitimate athlete style gimmick (EWR much) where he uses his wrestlining ability and strength to compensate for his mic skill. If Cena does turn, have Swagger turn face on Ziggler and Guerrero (two of your top heels) and he'll be over. Maybe bring in JR as a manager/mouthpiece and he'll get over.

Currently, no one on the WWE roster.

In all seriousness, it will probably be Punk but I don't think that he will do that well in the spot honestly. Punk comes off like a guy who is better off suited as being ONE of the top guys, not THE top guy.

I like Punk, but he comes across as a little too smarky for the kind of wider appeal that Cena has.

In 2013 ir'll be Ryder I'm sure. Depending how long Cena stays a heel I can easily see Ryder ascend. 2012 will be Ryder's growth year. If he gets better in the ring, as a character and becomes more serious then he'll surely be in the same spot Cena was in 2005 and take over but that's only if he gets more serious and realizes it's what he has to do. I'm sure he can pull it off though. Edge did, Cena did, he's young so he's got it. Same with Jericho as well.

I say Ryder, Sheamus and I'll throw down an extremely unlikely bet and say DiBiase Jr.
