WWE these days is that kid who you know is the most brilliant in the class, but for whatever reason, is not the valedictorian or anywhere near close as he is just lazy and doesn't want to put in the effort to do the assignments that are at his level.
The Main Event
They have guys like CM Punk, Daniel Bryan, Sheamus, John Cena, Alberto Del Rio, Dolph Ziggler, Chris Jericho, and The Big Show as your main event and uppercard. This is a TREMENDOUS talent pool here, yet many of them are struggling in their current roles.
Del Rio and Jericho have lost their luster as main event heels in record time. Sheamus's Brogue Kick is cursed and makes everyone who takes it on PPV more popular than he is. Cena is Cena, but it's even worse because they have had all these opportunities for character progression and yet he continues to be the same Cena every week making lame jokes that sometimes cost him, but he'll make five more the next week.
On the bright side, WWE has been at least booking one match that I care about for each show with these guys, Daniel Bryan vs. Sheamus 2/3 falls, Punk vs. Bryan OTL, Punk vs. Kane vs. Bryan and Sheamus vs. Dolph at No Way Out, and now Punk vs. Bryan MITB with AJ as ref. The problem is that the match anyone cares about doesn't close the shows nor does it get anywhere near the level of attention that abortions like Cena vs. Lauraniatis and Cena vs. Big Show, and I do believe that is a big problem.
The World/WWE titles are the biggest casualty here, as we haven't seen the title be the primary focus of a show since TLC 2011. Not a single PPV this year has had the title be the biggest draw of the show (and incidentally, none have closed the show despite ample opportunities), and it leads me to think that they do not have faith in Punk and Sheamus to step up and prove themselves.
On the bright side, Cena may be looking to reenter the title picture, and hopefully his presence will align things the way they should be, even in the shadows of HHH and Lesnar.
Speaking of HHH and Lesnar, I dig the buildup here for the most part. Heyman on the mic always delivers, and I don't feel bored with the match already. If they can keep the hype eventful, they could make some buyrates on HHH vs. Lesnar. I would have preferred Lesnar defeating Cena back at Extreme Rules, but I think most have forgotten the loss anyway. At the very least, they realize Brock's drawing value, and aren't diminishing it by having him on every show.
Midcard
Much like the main event, the WWE has all sorts of gems in the midcard, but no idea what to do with any of them. The Tag Division seemed like it was going through a resurgance, but they blew off the mini feud between the Colons and Prime Time Players on Superstars. The Usos have been lighting arenas on fire for months now with their dance routine, but nobody sees it. We even have Reks and Hawkins who the face tag teams can be heat on, but there's no sense of anything they do to be important, and who knows what the deal with the champs are.
I can't complain about Christian as IC champ, but Santino needs to do something with the US belt. He's got popularity, so just having him defend it each week is all he has to do or drop it to somebody like Del Rio who could use the title to look like a big deal.
And if Raw is going to 3 hours, I expect to see guys like Bateman, Curtis, Kaitlyn, Cesaro, , Gabriel, Hunico, the Tag Division get a big piece of the pie. If WWE continues to just stretch a 2 hour show to 3 with nothing of note added on, it's not going to be fun show at all.
