If it was anyone other than Steen, then I might buy into it more. But without reading it, this could also be a whole part of his anti-ROH schtick considering he plays up that gimmick everywhere he goes.
Honestly, I'd have to wait to hear someone else involved in it before I'll bite.

Yeah, that doesn't look good. Davey hasn't been the beacon of professionalism in the past with promoters.

there's also a video of Tony Kozina apparently going into business for himself against Ryan Kidd. it's very bizarre to watch This is gonna sound snarky and sarcastic, but I swear, I'm 100% in the dark here: Who the f*** is Tony Kozina, and how is he in position to pull rank on anybody?

I first heard of him when he was doing job matches for ROH when Pearce was the booker. Basically he's like this North West veteran. 10 or so years or something. I just watched the first minute or so, the kid he was wrestling, my arthritic ass could mop the floor with him after a few days of not taking my meds. But, he looks young and green, everyone can get bigger and stronger.

Richards' trainer. That short puggy looking guy he's always hanging around with.

He sure proved to us that he's a beacon of light in the wrestling industry. What a jerk. Not surprised Davey pulls dick moves every so often if he was trained by him.

I watched that video. It's weird, yes. In the beginning portion of the match it was some worked shoot style exhibition more than a pro wrestling match, but I don't see how he was "going into business for himself." They worked a 10 minute match telling the story of the young babyface kid trying to survive against a heel veteran who is trying to school him. If Kozina was really just legit beating the kid up and not working the planned match, there's no way the kid would have stayed out there and participated in what was a full match, complete with rope breaks, irish whips, false finishes with kicking out of the piledrivers, etc. Just before the eventual finish to the match, Kozina had the kid put him in a few holds as well. They were working, but just a weird style of match.
Kozina was in one of the early Super 8 tournaments ECWA put on, I think 2001, along with Low Ki, Bryan Danielson, Reckless Youth, etc. The only real reason he didn't break out in the early 2000's like a lot of indy guys was his location (Pacific Northwest). Nobody could afford to fly him out for the promotions that were getting more attention, such as on the east coast. By now he's a veteran and can't do as much flashy stuff in the ring as he did when he was younger. He was a very solid junior heavyweight in his day. He's modified his style to more of the wrestling/worked MMA hybrid that Richards and O'Reilly sometimes do. FIP in Florida repackaged him around 2007 or so as The Canadian Cougar under a mask for a short while. He has since moved to St. Louis and runs the roads with Richards and O'Reilly and they all train together.

Yeah, if you watch the whole video, it's actually really interesting the way it slowly, gradually goes from shoot to work. I'm not sure if it was a case of him being an asshole, or just thinking of a really smart way to have a match with that skinny pale kid that no one would take seriously.

If felt worked, but damn those piledrivers looked really stiff and Tony not protecting him at all.

I don't think there was a shoot in that video. I think it was just sloppy wrestling by the guy in red who likely never had proper training himself. Those pile drivers were just sloppy, dangerous and reckless.
Can you imagine if this bozo got a tryout with the WWE and he tried that shit? Then again, he probably wouldn't have enough guts to try it. He just does it to skinny kids in front of 40 people in small halls for $40.
Loser.

Yeah, I have no idea where anyone is seeing shoot in that video. Sloppy? Sure. Maybe even intentionally so to give it a shoot feel but not one second of that is real.

For those wondering shoot or work, its really f***ing obvious that its a shoot, and the kid only realises half way through. When he is pulling stuff like deliberately pulling guard, throwing triangle chokes (the finish is a legit triangle choke chokeout) attempting keylocks and of course those horrible piledrivers, he is just taking liberties. Any versed MMA fan can spot where Kozina is shooting there.
Sad excuse for pro wrestling. Kidd goes in thinking its a work as he doesnt know how to handle it. When he refuses to choke, thats when I can just see it going to s***. Like I said in the main thread about this, using Mixed Martial arts training to bully someone is sad and pathetic.

Guys the entire match was a shoot. The kid didn't realize quite what was going on until he got hit with those pile drivers.
Kozina is an idiot. The guy was trying the entire time to submit the kid and he couldn't. That means he really sucks at MMA because he had at least fifty pounds on that kid.

A sixteen year old kid being put on shows in this day and age is also questionable. Not only that, but a minor from California going to Iowa to wrestle. The "promotion" he wrestles for in California:
