So I was compelled to make this thread after seeing double dare and Legends of the Hidden temple. The prizes of these shows sucked ass. Horrible. Bad cameras. Games but not the system. Encyclopedias. That was the worse. Like why double dare why.

The first season of Figure it Out gave you nothing but old props from Double Dare, GUTS, and Legends of the Hidden Temple. It would really suck when the kids would get something useless like a paper mache boulder or a piece of a sign.

That was the worse. Like why double dare why. If you got games, those were teh consolation prize, when they did the obstacle courses, they did get teh consoles as well. Also about the encyclopedias, they were good prizes back in the day, since it helped you skip the painstakingly difficult library trips. Finally, the Cameras are what they are. Not only that, the technology is much better now, making these camera's crap.

There were some decent prizes on Hidden Temple like Mongoose bikes and Birdhouse Skateboards. I guess being on TV was enough for some children.

I remember they showed an Australian (I think) version of Double Dare on Nick in the early 90's, and the prizes made the US version look great by comparison. Like a non-Sony cassette walkman ripoff was one of the big ticket prizes.

I always loved when they would tape shows at Universal Studios in Orlando, the grand prize would be another trip to Universal Studios. I can't think of a Nickelodeon game show from 1990-1992 that didn't have that as a grand prize in some form or another. And no, GUTS and Wild & Crazy Kids don't count.

Love the consolation prize at the beginning of Hidden Temple
"Oh, you didn't make it past the moat. Here's some chocolate milk"

Love the consolation prize at the beginning of Hidden Temple "Oh, you didn't make it past the moat. Here's some chocolate milk" Actually when they showed the chocolate milk it was a 50 dollar bond or something like that from Nesquik. Don't ask me how I remember that.

I like how they made a $10 Duncan yo-yo seem like a big deal. I will say though, moon shoes....moon shoes were so awesome looking.

When you see stuff like Nestle Quik and yo-yos promoted as big deals, there's a reason. Episodes of Legends continuously aired on Nick for five years after production ended. So to make bucks off of them, they repurposed some of the prize plugs and used them to promote current sponsors. Those kids didn't actually get Quik as a consolation prize, but rather Quik paid to have promotion put in that episode overdubbing the original prize.

With Double Dare, at least both teams got cash. Although I did see one team get shut out once.

There was a time when the prize for finishing the 8th obstacle on Double Dare was *in Harvey voice* "a faaaaaaaabulous new car!" But yeah, I always laughed at the prizes on Nick game shows. Skechers shoes! Chocolate syrup! A karaoke machine advertised as "the Singalodeon"!

I remember thinking if I was doing the obstacle course, my goal would be to get through the obstacle that gave me an NES. After that, it's gravy.... or might just stop all together. Cuz really.... we're already AT Universal Studios... why do I need a trip there?
