Watching Blood Feast for the millionth time and one of the many parts that absolutely sends me is the woman in the pink coat "sobbing" over her daughter's death in a way that makes it sound like she's busting out laughing.
"I bought her that white dress for graduation and now she'll never wear it. She'll never wear it! HAHAHAHAHA!!!"

DSR saw this and rememebereed you 50 States project. Had never heard of the MS film. Tracking it down now. Neat! Skipping around a bit on there (don't know if I'll be willing to invest 2.5 hours of my time to the whole thing), and I see they include stuff that takes place in a state even if it wasn't shot there (30 DAYS OF NIGHT was filmed in New Zealand). So might not work for my criteria, since I'm trying to go for things made more independently and with local flavor. But I'll see if any of their titles fit better than what I've got. I'm nine movies away from finishing, by the way. If I can, I intend to wrap it all up this year.

I saw Proteus (1995) and it is something I would describe as "John Carpenter's The Thing on the high sea."
The trailer calls the main cast "adventurers" that got lost when, in actual movie plot, they're drug smugglers whose boat exploded.
It caught me off guard with how much I liked it.
The random Doug Bradley cameo at the end was a nice surprise as well...oh...sorry.

Got told to find something we had never seen and was horror but not "that really gory stuff you love". Realized the shared server had a rip of these two films. And Ninja Vampire Busters was chosen. Ancient Urn filled with evil is lost at sea. Rich dude 500 years later buys it. It gets opened with dumb ass uses it as an ashtray. 30 or so minutes in 0 vampires and 2 ninjas, that were gone fast. But yea Hong Kong made so has that goofy comedy feel. Bad dubbing and an obvious ex rental VHS rip.

Now I’m back to my unwatched pile I was thinking of getting back to Pendulum Pictures, but am in the mood for something with a little higher production values. I’ve been thinking of checking out this one which has been collecting dust in my apartment forever now: The first two are sci-fi comedies, but the second two are classic horror sci-fi I have all of those (and a bunch of the other Midnite Movies DVDs). I watched THE MAN FROM PLANET X fairly recently. It's interesting for being one of the first alien invasion movies, and feeling just slightly off from the way they would become in just a couple years. Like, it's set in the modern day, but it's in a tiny European village, and the score sounds more orchestral and less like the eerie theremin that became shorthand for the genre. It's kinda like the movie wants to be a Universal horror from the previous decade while still inching towards the sci-fi horror the decade would become known for. I finally got through this set! I probably would’ve finished it sooner, but had some playback issues with the discs (they’re probably 20+ years old). But I cleaned them up and got everything working I’d rank them… 1. The Angry Red Planet 2. The Man From Planet X 3. Alien From L.A. 4. Morons From Outer Space I kind of had high hopes going in for The Angry Red Planet and was a little surprised it delivered. It’s just a really fun American International Sci-Fi Horror.

I cracked open my Ray Dennis Steckler Severin box set and am already up to The Thrill Killers.
Wild Guitar I somehow never saw before and was surprised the first half was a pretty reserved and cynical look at the music industry. Of course it falls off the rails in the second half, but it was much better than I expected.
My opinion hasn’t changed about Incredibly Strange Creatures. It deserves its reputation.
The Thrill Killers is still my favorite of Steckler’s. It’s puzzling and a little unfortunate how much better the first half of Wild Guitar and especially Thrill Killers is than anything else I’ve seen from him (and I’ve seen a lot). I’m planning to watch the alternate cut of The Thrill Killers next, The Maniacs Are Loose!

For a few years now, I've had my hands on two slasher movies: the extremely low budget HORROR HOUSE ON HIGHWAY 5 (1985) which features a killer who wears a Richard Nixon mask, and David Arquette's THE TRIPPER (2006), which features a group of friends at a hippie music festival being stalked by a killer in a Ronald Reagan mask.
Neither one of those films are what I would call classics, but while I was perusing eBay for something in the slasher vein, I happened upon...
PRESIDENT'S DAY (2012) is a slasher film co-written, edited, and directed by Chris LaMartina (WNUF HALLOWEEN SPECIAL). Not really concerned with the titular holiday, the film instead focuses on the upcoming student council presidential election at Baltimore's Lincoln High School. Police and school faculty are baffled when two presidential hopefuls are brutally murdered! (The authorities don't know it, but we in the audience see that the killer wears what looks like a zombified Abraham Lincoln mask).
The hero of our story is Barry, a class clown/slacker who decides to run for student council president solely so he can get to know a cute new girl in school who is also running. Barry is also the only student that on-campus police Officer Kennedy (Ryan Scott Thomas, V/H/S 2) has any type of relationship with. So when Officer Kennedy finds notes given to murder victims that frame the Officer, he ropes Barry into the investigation (which is something of a giallo trope, so if you want to call this film "giallo-inspired" you're technically right). Barry now has to balance his burgeoning romance, the high school political game, AND amateur detective work as more bodies pile up!
PRESIDENT'S DAY is a supremely low-budget film, with a number of first-time or inexperienced actors (according to IMDB, all of the actors worked for free). The writing relies heavily on high school and/or high school movie stereotypes (goth girl, prissy "popular" girl that no one actually likes, hippie art teacher, etc.). Practical gore effects are abundant, and while not 100% convincing, they have their charm. That last sentence might feel like a sudden change in topic, but I feel like the film as a whole has that same vibe: not entirely convincing, but it has it's charm. I would not give this film a whole-hearted recommendation, but I've seen bigger budgeted horror films that were less competently made than this one. I honestly don't regret this purchase, though the hunt continues for a truly great president-themed slasher film...

So, I signed up for Screambox when they did their cheap year-long deal and I just want to take a moment to mention that I find it absolutely hilarious that no matter what movie you click on, the first suggested "other" film to see afterwards is Terrifier 2.
I realize Screambox probably did well by its involvement with that series, but it's hilarious to click on a Found Footage movie and see "Terrifier 2." Click on a Horror Comedy? Terrifier 2. Monster movie? Terrifier 2. Black and white 1950s horror? Terrifier 2.
Just...I don't know. This felt like the place to mention this.

The feeling when you dip your toe into buying blu-rays again and find out what you want - What region are you in and what are you looking for? Might be able to help. Getting rid of stuff I got extras of or stuff I got on DVD and Blu ray.

What region are you in and what are you looking for? Might be able to help. Getting rid of stuff I got extras of or stuff I got on DVD and Blu ray. That's very decent of you. I dunno if you can help but it's kind to even offer. Thank you. I'm Region A. Good ol' vanilla U.S of A. They're nothing too exciting. They'll all be rather droll to someone of your stripe I'm sure. 1. The Loved Ones 2. Hush 3. Pontypool 4. Gerald's Game 5. Cam 6. The Perfection 7. Sick 8. Rogue (2007) 9. Teeth (2007) 10. A Wounded Fawn Most are streaming. Some Mike Flanagan films that'll never escape Netflix hold to where he encourages fans to seek out his stuff in physical form. A dash of Shudder that weren't deemed physically viable. Old NA releases that never made it past DVD that I was biding my time on, biting my lip for years ago that still haven't... I dunno, bidden? Probably never will. I was pleasantly surprised there seems to be a right excellent 4k release of Cemetery Man now through. I don't have 4k, but I don't have Dellamorte Dellamore on BluRay either sooooo. I'm hoping for that and Eyes of Fire to go on sale this year, maybe after Arrow remove my arm and leg. If no discount guess Severin get the spares.
Speaking of saving and spending, Shout! is running their annual "Love is in the Scare" sale on certain titles from now 'til the 24th I think. Maybe you're like me and still need to buy Alligator. Or maybe you're like me and they want you to buy a blu ray you already purchased from someone else through them. Or ten. I stopped counting.

I might have the Loved One on DVD. I will check the master list later.

I used to have a fair number of second-hand sellers near me that specialized in movies and games, had free buffing and everything. Four Games Pluses, three Movie Exchanges, some rando mom-and-pop game store, a Half Price Books within spitting distance. Even an Alamo Drafthouse that wasn't a seventy-mile round trip.
I was so spoiled in retrospect. Covid put the kibosh on most of that. That's a big reason why my collection bug ebbed some time ago. I've never been able to conjure up titles I'm hunting at the pawns, though indubitably they must exist, heh.

My area is weird. Sometimes all you see for weeks/months is hunting/fishing/sports/religious dvds/blu rays along with the standard big release films. Then I will walk into a thrift and find Benny's Video,Ichi the Killer,Black Scorpion II and a pile of other stuff I left behind ,cause I already had it. One time at the big church ran thrift for 2 or 3 bucks I got the still sealed Monty Python's Flying Circus complete run. Was at the time selling to 100 new and like 50 used. Before I made it to where I was eating lunch I had sold it for 55 shipped. Now I do hit up my normal circuit once a week sometimes twice a week. Today was her and I hitting a bigger area and more stores. And I did find that DVD of Teeth, was 1buck,but the data side of the DVD someone with a sharpie wrote R.Kelly..... Wait let me go wash my hands real good. Grabbed this. No horror stuff so far.

Can't accuse me of not being festive . . .
My Bloody Valentine (2009)
Plot: Ten years after Harry Warden massacred 22 people, a small mining town again is once again stricken by a grisly murder spree. Has Warden returned for another round of bloodshed?
The original My Bloody Valentine is a decent ‘80s slasher, but I have no strong feelings for it and I just kinda shrugged when it got swept up in the ‘00s horror remake tornado. I mean, sure, why not? The OG movie is an easy choice to remake and it’s not such a revered classic that tinkering with the story would seem like sacriledge. And while the 2009 version certainly adds its own wrinkles to the plot, it’s still a pretty average slasher that matches the original in quality—it’s just fine!
As a bonus, the remake received the 3D treatment for its theatrical release. Unfortunately, since I only watched this in 2D, the effects look downright weird. It conjures up flashbacks to Friday the 13th Part 3 due to some awkward scenes obviously meant to be viewed with 3D glasses. Granted, there are no extended sequences of yoyos and popcorn, but dare I say it’s actually more of a distraction here? When those moments happen, it’s a total vibe shift. The opening sequence in which old newspaper headlines fly across the screen looks like a jumbled mess and you may start to think you’re undergoing a vision test at the doctor’s office.
One aspect that thankfully still holds up in 2D is the gore. The original film rather infamously saw its kill scenes hacked by the censors of its day, with a whopping nine minutes of footage left on the cutting room floor. This time out, we get to see the killer get creative with pickaxes, shovels, and other mining equipment. If you ever wanted to see pickaxe jammed through someone’s mandible, this is your movie! The best kill, and there are several great ones, is when we see Tom Atkins (yes, that Tom Atkins) have his chin thrown right in our faces. His bare ass in Halloween III was not enough.
In its quest to differentiate itelf from the original, this remake throws in a good ole twist-a-roo at the end and the result is, um, meh? Without spoiling too much, it’s always a little deflating when the number #1 suspect in the whodunnit is revealed to be the one who actually did it. It just feels like they were building to a twistier and more shocking reveal, especially when much of the story is driven by a soap opera love triangle (with one of the participants having an affair with a woman who is pregnant *dramatic organ score*). Instead, it settles for the cliche “split personality” reveal. I’m not mad; just a little disappointed.
Overall, the 2009 remake for My Bloody Valentine isn’t too shabby. It’s the definition of adequate really but, hey, that’s not a bad thing in the pantheon of horror remakes. Much like its killer, I’ll probably revisit this one in ten years or so.

I think you'll make bank off Stone Cold. Considering he's already a bank you're well on your way! Looks better than I had pictured. I posted a picture of it on FB and less than 20 minutes later it sold for more than I spent for verything I got yesterday. Watched Maid Droid off TUBI last night. Low budget modern horror with a good idea hindered by a low low budget.
