Hey gang, there's a teaser trailer for Troma's RETURN TO CLASS OF NUKE 'EM HIGH out in the world, that I can't provide a link to for obvious reasons. I'll PM it to anyone interested, though. I found it, looks fun and yes completely inappropriate for this board ;D

I watched "The Cabin in the Woods" a couple of times over the weekend. Found it to be thoroughly entertaining, especially the last half hour or so, though, as an aspiring academic, I do wish reviewers who throw about terms like 'postmodern' and 'deconstructionist' would actually substantiate what these terms mean... I'm pretty sure that much like proactive and paradigm, postmodern and deconstructive are buzzords dumb people use to sound important.

For their first ever theatrical relase, The Asylum is running a Twitter hashtag contest #HoldYourBreath. "Hold Your Breath" will follow a group of teens who end up being terrorized and murderized after one of them accidentally releases a vengeful spirit (An Urban Legend tale where you're supposed to hold your breath when walking by a certain place...one doesn't. Apparently the first person to ever do so). The contest is as such: Yay! You can be ate by Sharktopusarusconda! "Oh yes." Anyway, I had a free pay-per-view movie due to me on DISH Cinema, and I used it on Silent House. Maybe it was just the atmosphere of actually watching a horror movie in the dark for a change, but I found it to be creepy as hell and all kinds of effective. The twist ending genuinely surprised me, as well. I'd highly recommend it to my fellow horror fans.

Not sure it counts as horror, but I kicked off my Shocktoberfest movie spree with Ghost In The Shell last night. I now have a new movie in my Top Ten Favorites. Might even be top 5.

Tonight, just after midnight, I begin my month-long horror marathon. But I don't know what to begin it with.
Also, some weekend during the month, I intend to watch all of the Nightmare on Elm Street movies, in a row.
Just thought I'd share.

Mostly for the loud buzzer that went off when you touched the walls or the robots. Or the giant smiley face that came to get you if you took too long on a board. Hell, the game even caused two teenagers to die of heart attacks back in the day!

vLet's play organize my queue:
I love being horrified. Campy stuff is OK when I'm in the mood for it, but it's Halloween month. I love being scared. What does it for me: 1) survivalist stuff; 2) feelings of helplessness (not masichistic stuff necessarily, just "there's no way I'm surviving this as a viewer living the experience with the character); 3) effective use of sound; 4) not knowing what's lurking around the corner; what's out there?! 5) not too far outside the realm of possibility (definitely love supernatural, ghosts, zombies and such, but sort of need that ability to immerse and suspend disbelief--don't worry, it's not that hard for me to pull off; i go into all horror WANTING to be scared) 6) 70s and 80s style filmmaking 7) fear of being watched
Things that might help ... Some of the scariest stuff (or best stuff) I've ever seen (just in the order that it comes to mind) -- just a short short list: 1) Halloween (original) 2) the first 15-20 minutes of original When a Stranger Calls (the rest is absolute crap) 3) Paranormal Activity (just like the suspense and it totally works for me) 4) Blair Witch Project (saw it when it was "real") 5) original Night of the Living Dead 6) Penny Dreadful (freaking love the helplessness and survivalist factor; great example of "keep it simple, stupid") 7) Phantom
Stuff I just plain ol' love (only a small sample): 1) House of 1,000 Corpses 2) Devils Rejects 3) [REC] 4) Antichrist 5) House of the Devil 6) Audition 7) Opera 8) The Walking Dead 9) American Horror Story 10) The Fourth Kind
Campy stuff I love (for example): 1) Halloween 3 2) The Burning 3) Sleepaway Camp 4) Evil Dead
Stuff I hate (to give you an idea of what to avoid): 1) Final Destination 2) any of those alligator or shark "Sci-Fi Channel"-esque movies
My October plans so far: Organize my queue: 1) American Horror Story (rewatching before season premeire; non-negotiable) 2) The Silent House 3) Deep in the Woods 4) Right at Your Door 5) Eden Lake 6) Tenebre 7) Frozen 8) Session 9 9) I Can See You 10) Hour of the Wolf 11) Battle Royale 12) Lo 13) Santa Sangre 14) Following 15) The Reeds 16) The Ward
Still haven't seen Serbian Film (can't find access to it anywhere).
Add to my queue (what am I missing?): . . . . . . . . . . . .
My Halloween is counting on you folks.
EDIT: NO SPOILERS. NO DETAILS. I don't really even want to know much of what the movies are about. I never even watch previews. I hate having movies spoiled or the fear factor ruined.

Cabin in the Woods. Haven't seen it, but I'm sure it doesn't really fall so much into the "scary" side, but more along the lines of Campy/Stuff I love. I heard nothing but great things though.

@pegasus
Is Battle Royale a horror movie? It's a good movie but I'm not entirely sure it falls in the horror/halloween style.
You could add Event Horizon, Deadly Spawn or The Thing to your list if you want to break it up a little with some sci-fi horror.
The Keep (1983) could be an interesting addition if you can find it. The Orphanage (2007) or this year's The Woman in Black for more straightforward scares.

@pegasus Is Battle Royale a horror movie? It's a good movie but I'm not entirely sure it falls in the horror/halloween style. I've seen BATTLE ROYALE considered as a horror movie before. Bloody Disgusting called it one of the best horror films of the decade. *shrug*
