Happy it's back, but that wasn't a good episode.

Just watched it now, that was tough to get through. It's like the show has had its heart and soul ripped out from it, which it has. The actors weren't phoning it in at least and they put all their effort into making it work (specifically Alison) but it just didn't feel right, at all. I couldn't get into the preview clips that they put out either, which had me worried in the first place. I hated the Abed TV and Abed's happy place/The Hunger Deans, they both felt really forced. What I did like though: - Britta and Troy at the pond was the best scene and gave me a good chuckle - The Annie/Shirley prank scenes were decent - As stated above Alison Brie tried her hardest to make the best job out of it possible, like the rest of the cast but with specific mention to her. - I like the fact that Troy and Britta are finally a couple - Alison and Gillian both looked as gorgeous as ever But yeah that's about it, I will still carry on till the end out of love for the show. It may get better I don't know, even if it does though it still won't be the old Community that I adored They really need Dan Harmon That whole episode felt like someone moved Dan Harmon's stapler. "somebody tell me what the hell we just did" - Pierce

Kind of a letdown, but they tried. The Troy/Britta and Jeff/Dean scenes were entertaining, my favorite by far being the fountain scene and Jeff finding out the Dean was his new neighbor. The Annie/Shirley scenes weren't bad either, and Annie's character facet about not wanting to leave college for the real world was pretty good. But the Hunger Deans thing and Abed's "happy place" - I'm feeling 543Y2J on it feeling forced.

The Muppet Babies stuff was cool and if ABEDTV is what its like watching a show with a laugh track still....ugh.
Overall though a pretty weak re-debut and felt like someone else writing a show that was trying to be like Community, except with the original actors.

It was as if they got a list of "what Community is" and wrote a script that implemented all of them. It was missing heart I felt

It was much better than I was expecting. Although considering I was expecting a trainwreck that isn't saying much. The show can still make me laugh, which is more than I can say for a show like The Office but it's clearly going to be a whole different animal.
That said, next week will be the real test as the episode is written by Megan Ganz AKA the writer of some of my favorite episodes of the show.

And I believe next week is the Halloween episode (well, their Halloween. F***ing NBC), which always turn out to be good. I didn't mind the Abed TV thing, as I think it was meant to feel forced since it was Abed's "Happy Place". The Hunger Deans could have been done without, but it didn't ruin the episode for me. There's no doubt the show would be different without Harmon, as it was his vision, his baby, and at the end of the day, only he knew what was right for the heart of the show. That goes without saying. The show now is the polar opposite of what it was back in Season 1, but then again, hasn't almost every sitcom gone through that? Next week will truly be the test to see if the show can function properly without Dan Harmon.

It was a pretty great concept, I liked the ideas and the story and the performances, but it all felt off. Something in the execution went wrong. For one thing it felt to shiny and clean. Greendale looked more like Candy Land than a run down school.

I can't tell if this one feels wrong because it's a Halloween episode airing in February, or if it's that weird intangible feeling like last week's episode.

I like how Pierce believed Chang's stupid belief that ghosts can't go through doors.
EDIT: Actually, he mixed it around:

Everything else was just kinda there.

Well it was way better than last weeks episode but just felt like a average Community episode. I do love the line Abed said about I miss this show being about a Community College.

I missed the first half of this week's episode. But the second half was decent.

I'm really trying to keep an open mind about this season, I really am, but you can really feel Harmon's absence so far. It feels different, and I don't think it's the good kind. Everything feels a little too sitcom-y, and I feel they've retconned both Annie's and Britta's character growths from last season.
I don't know. The season hasn't been flat out awful so far, but nothing really memorable or entertaining, a side from one or two lines from either Troy or Abed, or both. I went in the new season almost forgetting that Harmon was gone and had been replaced, and yet I remembered as I was watching because it doesn't feel like HIS show, the show that I love and became a die-hard fan of. However, I will continue watch and I will still be a fan of the show out of love, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't feel underwhelmed.
Hopefully things will get better.
