You'll be a time traveler when waiting for that 70 GB install.

Game Informer story inside. Bigger screenshots from the story below. Right click "Open image in new tab" if they're too small.

This game's world is going to be bigger than the combined sum of Red Dead Redemption's, San Andreas', and GTA4's worlds.
Holy. f***ing. Shit.
I just hope they don't have the same problems Ubisoft had with Assassin's Creed III's massive ultrasized world(there is a shit load of texture and model pop up in AC3, that game is quite literally too big for the current consoles, so here's hoping GTA5 is better managed, because it sounds even bigger than AC3).

So you play as 3 people? I don't know if I like the sound of that.

So you play as 3 people? I don't know if I like the sound of that. You can play as any of them, and switch at any time. Judging by the way they talk about it, you aren't forced to play any character (except for unique side-missions).

I think I'll stick with Michael, then. He seems the most interesting. Retired, FBI(or rather FIB) witness protected former bank robber tired of his domestic life with his money almost all gone thanks to his shrew of a wife, and he wants to get back into the game.
That sounds much more interesting than the drug using career criminal Trevor and the hustling repo man Franklin.
Though Franklin also seems interesting, as he's trying to grow up and move out of his criminal ways, but he's being held back by idiot law breaking friends.
That is an interesting dynamic to this group, really. Michael is trying to get back into the game, Franklin is trying to get out of the game, and Trevor never left the game and doesn't want to leave the game.

The story is going to be centered on all 3, as opposed to one exclusive. I'm not a fan of movies that do that, and I doubt I'm going to like a game that plays out the same way. Judging from their backgrounds, it looks like you're going to have to do gang stuff with one guy, drug stuff with another and business stuff with the other guy. This just waters down the effect for me, because I'd rather get involved with just one person and have that person be me. I think having more than one central character gets me less attached to them altogether, especially if I have to switch back and forth (which I most certainly think you'll be forced to do). I never cared for those kinds of games and just wish Rockstar would've just put stock in one character.

Is there a TL;DR version of that wall of text? I got the 3 characters bit and just lost interest in reading.

Is there a TL;DR version of that wall of text? I got the 3 characters bit and just lost interest in reading. Some key points which I can remember... - There are three playable characters. You can switch between them at any time. When you switch between them, it will zoom-out in a Google Earth-like view, and then zoom-in down to where they're at on the map. They will do activities themselves, even when you're playing as another character, so there won't be a "left off" point or anything. You can switch between them to play different roles in a mission, as well. - The story intertwines, so when you progress a mission as one character, it does it for everyone. They won't be involved in every mission together though, so I assume it will force to play as a certain character at times. - According to them, Los Santos is bigger than Grand Theft Auto IV, San Andreas, and Red Dead Redemption COMBINED when taking into account it's exteriors and interiors. - You can scuba dive, there's tons of content in the water and at the depths of the ocean. - They didn't bring back romance (it didn't fit the characters), RPG elements from SA (due to limitations), or property buying. - Despite no property buying, they said they heard all of the complaints about money not being useful in GTA IV, and have brought in tons of different things to spend money on, but they won't reveal them until a later date. - There are more vehicles in this game than any other GTA game ever. They include a BMX bike, mountain bikes, road bikes, dirt bikes, helicopters, planes, ATVs, tons of different cars and trucks, and jet skis. - Activities include golf, tennis, base jumping, jet skiing, triathlons, and yoga, amongst others. - Heists are a big part of the game. - Driving, melee combat and shooting mechanics have been refined. They said driving is a lot more like a real racing game now. - A military base is included. As is a fully explorable Mt. Chiliad. - Random encounters from Red Dead Redemption are included. - They've expanded the functionality of phones, and you won't get bugged with calls from friends anymore. - Some smaller characters from GTA IV, and it's episodes will be making an appearance. Keep in mind certain things weren't mentioned or revealed on purpose, as they're waiting until later to do so.

I hope when they say the random encounters from Red Dead are included, I hope that means cowboys riding horseback show up and start harassing people.

They sort of did the three playable characters whose stories cross paths in GTA IV along with it's DLC additions.
Interesting to see how it goes in a full game.

I'm glad it sounds like they've gone back to making GTA fun again with planes, fun vehicles, military bases and stuff rather than the "realistic"... or boring if you will, GTA IV. Glad it's gonna have a huge world to explore too, that was another thing GTA IV lacked. Found the city to be so boring atfer the awesome San Andreas.
