You'd probably would be surprised by how many source codes are lost in video games This is the same reason why we haven't got a port of Panzer Dragoon Saga yet >.>

You'd probably would be surprised by how many source codes are lost in video games That is why the Silent Hill HD collection was such a mess.

Couldn't they remake FF7 with a similar game's code like Crisis Core? Or just build an entirely new game?

Why wouldn't they remake the game completely, with the way they do Final Fantasy games now? Sounds like another excuse to not make something people have been asking for. They would need the original code more for reference than for anything else, honestly. Nothing from it would make the final cut but it would make organization way easier. Plus it does explain why they don't do HD re-releases. They flat out can't do that. I would think they'd need the original code for the things like damage calculation and all of the behind the scenes calculations that are made.

Reddit has its problems, but even as someone who doesn't post there, it's absolutely packed with information from all kinds of people from all kinds of places. If there is proof to the AMA, I wouldn't doubt it being true.

I don't know, I figure they'd change the battle system a lot if they had the chance to.
