Steve Corino sounds like someone that wrestling needs more of. Great blog. Sadly, I don't believe anything that wrestlers say, for the sole reason that they're entire livelihood depends on deception and illusion. Chair shots are a relic from a different era, they should just be gone completely.

However garbage wrestling in the 90s watered down the damage of weapons that now they are seen more like a superplex type 2 count move rather than a finisher. What I would like to see is a company not use weapons for years, 3-4, and then have it happen 3 or 4 time a year for a massive reason so that the effectiveness is at it's peak.

I haven't seen Final Battle yet but if what I've read in this thread is true, it's worrying. I will also say however, if Corino's telling the truth he's gone WAAY up in my book and I hope more follow suit. I hate seeing these guys work a reckless style.
One day I was talking to a friend of mine about Davey Richards. I said I'm a fan of Richards and liked every one of his matches I've seen, my friend instantly called me on it. He said that Richards is one of the worst wrestlers because he's too caught up in making it "real" that he doesn't work safely. After some thought I found it hard to disagree. I admit if I were a wrestler in a match against guys like Davey, I definitely wouldn't feel safe.

If that's true about Davey then it's a valid point, but how does your friend know that Davey is that risky to work with? Have guys complained about him? Is there a long list of opponents of his getting legit injured during matches? Has your friend had the opportunity to work a match with Richards?

But he has been to (at least) 2 of his matches in the front row. He said that he's one of the most reckless guys he's seen, funnily enough he said the same about the Briscoes. Still, maybe it just means they're good at creating the illusion.

Quite honestly, I am more worried about Davey kicking and headbutting his and others' skulls to dust every match than the occasional chairshot. I do think it is something that doesn't need to be done all the time but, as long as they are done right (which sounds like they weren't in this case), let em be.
Also from PWInsider: The promotion announced that "fines" were levied against several wrestlers for use of "illegal objects" during Final Battle 2011. I'm not sure if that's storyline or legitimate but I know several in management were not happy with the chairshots to the head.

To me when a guy of Lance Storm's skill set can't even say when someone's dangerous in the ring or not without working him then I find it difficult to buy into a fan deeming this or that person reckless.
