The longer it takes the higher the chance that legends house will be a really sad reminder of dead old wrestlers.

A couple years ago before youtube and hulu hit... yeah it may have made sense. In this new era of increasingly individualize content not so much. Look at MTV, VH1, TNN, CMT... all these networks are trying to expand the brand past the original network concept. I don't think the pay model would have been too successful unless they produce the kind of caliber shows that HBO and Showtime produce (Also, boobs).

They should make it an online stream service. Like Netflix.

I would absolutely love if Ted Turner swooped in, started a wrestling network, and offered Vince programming slots on it. I'm pretty sure Vince would have a stroke right then and there.

They need to do an online-only network. Get it on game systems, Roku boxes, smart TVs, Apple TV, TiVos, etc...
Those companies are paying big $ for content these days.

Ya, but those things won't paint Vince as a big-time Tinsel-town mover and shaker and erase the perception that he's really just an insane carny! </Vince's mind>

I would absolutely love if Ted Turner swooped in, started a wrestling network, and offered Vince programming slots on it. I'm pretty sure Vince would have a stroke right then and there. Assistant (over intercom): Mr. McMahon, Mr. Ted Turner is on line 3 Vince: Oh thank you (hangs up intercom) Ha, Turner is calling, where is my play book. Vince pulls out old and dusty 5 inch binder full of pre written conversations Vince had imagined having with Ted Turner. Vince: Let's see, ah yes, play 283, the 'Dubya See BOO-YAAAH' This will show Turner who owns the wrasslin' business.... Vince gets the play ready, leans back in his chair, and answers on speaker phone. Starts reading the pre written opening... Vince: Hello Ted, it's been a long time, but I can't say this call isn't expected. How is Atlanta since I bought Dubya See Du... what was that last letter again? Ted Turner: Hello Vince, I was ju... wait what? Vince realizes Ted said something rather unexpected so chooses to go with audible B on the play Vince: Come on Ted, you know Dubya See Dubya... Ted: I remember it Vince, but I'm calling because I heard you wanted to start a network and I want to bring pro wrestling back to Turner television. Vince: Ah yea Ted (Vince switches plays to find the 'Network'). I'm getting my own network it's no big deal really, since WWE is pro wrestling. Ted, oh you're right Mr. McMahon I'm jealous... err... *cough cough* Ted: Huh? well I was talking with Xfinity and NBC guys and they couldn't find a slot and I'm very interested in making a deal for Turner television. Vince feels disrespected for some weird reason and becomes visibly upset as the secretary walks in holding a stack of papers for McMahon. Vince: Well call McDevitt if you think I brought in Steiner too early and should have had to finish his WCW contract!!!! (picks up phone and slams it 3 times). Secretary: Mr. McMahon, are you alright??? Vince: Yea, that was Ted Turner calling about me kicking his ass in Monday Night Wars. Now he is begging me to put MY network on his channels, psh.... Sorry this idea got a little out of hand

Expected, but I'm glad. I was worried WWE would push it through, it would tank and they would go with it. That and not being able to watch Superstars because it'd be on some pay channel would've bummed me out too.

For the best if true. The network probably would've killed the company in the long run.
Though they should have really gotten all of this lined up before they started hyping the thing.

I still can't believe Vince thought he could do it. Not that I'm proud of it failing but it always seemed like a longshot.

You know the sad thing about this for me is that the XFL comparisons aren't fair. If you think about it, XFL at the VERY least was an interesting concept. WWE Network was so obviously a way to get more money and do less for it. They've already got PPV deals, TV deals, a great Youtube channel, their DVD catalog on Netflix, and an On Demand service. Why would anyone want a network that (supposedly) wasn't going to be VOD and just meant you had to pay a subscription PLUS whatever PPV you wanted? It's just BS all around and I hope that Vince takes crap for it next stockholder's call.
