In lieu of G4's passing, let us commemorate the other channels which have passed, typically by the hands of a LCD-minded executive, into the big picture tube in the sky. I first nominate Speedvision. While I was originally a NASCAR fan anyway, Speedvision always had an exotic flair growing up, first because it was on the extended cable block that we only got previews of for a while, and then because it had such a more objective, European, almost BBC-like flair (in terms of comparing BBC News to American news) and had excellent original programming, including Inside Winston Cup which was probably the best NASCAR program from that time period. Add to that the coverage of Formula 1 and other international motorsport and you had a happy 90's kid. When Fox picked them up and rebranded it as Speed Channel, not only did the name seem really forced in terms of Americanizing it, they really delved too far into being the NASCAR channel for a while, and really forcing the American nature with their original programming. They've gotten a bit better lately since they went to being just SPEED, so I'm actually starting to soften on them, but they're still missing something vs. the Speedvision era.

Fox Family. Had shows like Mr. Bill, Adams Family etc... I still remember the network change from the family Channel to Fox family.
Went from Happy Trails to you, to an over the top screaming loud network.

I loved the hell out of Trio. I don't think they've existed since the early 00's.
I fell in love with Laugh-in on there. They also used to show old Late Night With David Letterman episodes and the best was "Brilliant But Cancelled" where they would show TV shows that were great but didn't catch on and were cancelled after less than one season. My favorite was Lookwell, which lasted just one pilot episode from 1991, but it was created by Conan O'Brien and Robert Smigel and starred Adam West.

The History Channel was a fun and informative network that made various historical subjects fun.
Strange that there's a "History Channel" now considering it has shows like Ice Road Truckers.

Monsters HD. Showed a bunch of horror movies of varying qualities, but damn was it fun. Saw "Dead Alive" on that channel, and was somehow convinced Peter Jackson could actually direct something not boring.

They also did a doc on the cancelled shows and had cast and creators talk about it.

Trio was the best. It made me want to go back to high school and remake Laugh-In for our Friday TV show that we were allowed to air when we actually enough material

Tech TV(more for Anime Unleashed than anything, they showed stuff that hadn't been picked up by Cartoon Network and I got into the anime Dual! Parallel Trouble Adventure)
Trio
The WB and UPN(The CW turned out to be worse than the G4-Tech TV merger and that's saying something).

The Box - even tho im sure with youtube, who would want to pay to see music video's so it was doomed or would've became something else.
MTV X - Showed only rock videos, was awesome, got replaced in 2002 by mtv james, which just shows hip hop videos, I was really mad when this happened.
G4 tv 4 gamers - to me its been dead since 2004/5. The tech tv merger started it, and then it just became a wannabe spike tv.
Nick GaS - was awesome, showed all of nickelodeon's classic game shows.
WGTW 48 - here in philly, was a good local channel, showed basically every wwf syndicated show and ecw (hell even czw had a show that aired on it in the early 2000s). Would become a religion channel.
