Pop Tarts are awful, they taste like something civil war soldiers would carry in their ration pouch.

So besides very few TV shows all I watch is American TV. I have seen over the years many tasty looking things on screen. I want you americans to describe best you can on how the following foods taste because chances are, i will never know.... twinkies pop tarts nutterbutters marshmallow fluff tootsie rolls kool aid taffy reese's baby ruths hersheys Twinkies - Sponge cake with a cream filling. Not that good, too sweet for my taste. The cream dominates it, so if you can get a good idea of what it's like by dumping a bunch of sugar in whipped cream. Pop Tarts - Some are pretty tasty. It's just a pastry with a filling, sometimes frosted. The pastry is kind of bland so the fillings make a big difference. Kind of like a jelly doughnut if you know those, just without a good doughnut and with a generic flat pastry instead. Nutterbutters - Awesome. Decent tasting cookies with peanut butter in between them. Out of all the things on your list this would be what I would try to get the most. Basically just a strong peanut taste, and nothing else overpowering. Marshmallow Fluff - I can take or leave this, haven't had much of it. Tootsie Rolls - Hard, chewy chocolate with kind of a different taste than most milk chocolate. Maybe a little nut or caramel taste in it but I'm not sure. Anyway, these are great because you can get a lot of them for not much money. Kool-Aid - If you know what fruit punch is, imagine that with a little weaker taste but an assload of sugar. There are a lot of flavors. Taffy - The chewy kind is the best. Basically sugar and butter, sometimes flavored. It's all boiled together until it gets sticky and chewy. Kind of hard to describe the taste but I guess it's kind of like a chewy sugar thing. Sometimes it isn't flavored. Reese's - Everything has a peanut taste to it. Reese's Pieces are a lot like M&Ms if you have those there, except instead of chocolate it's peanut inside. Their peanut butter cups are short discs of chocolate with a peanut butter filling. They have other types of things too, like a candy bar whose name escapes me that is basically a crispy wafer with peanut butter, covered in chocolate. Baby Ruth - Peanuts, caramel, and nougat covered in an overly-sweet chocolate. The filling is a lot better than the chocolate. The caramel and peanuts go really well together. Hershey's - Depends a lot on what type. I don't care much for their normal milk chocolate, too sweet for me. Their dark chocolate is really good - a real smooth and mellow flavor compared to a milk chocolate. Kisses are okay, but really great around holidays. They have some for Christmas that are like a peppermint flavored white chocolate with red mint striping and I can eat those by the bag. As far as British/Irish food, haven't had too much but I understand there's a lot of sausage, potatoes, and bacon involved, which are three of my favorite things. Generally I prefer non-American chocolate, as it tends to be less sugary and more chocolatey. I'm assuming you're in Ireland, a lot of people from my area of America (northern Indiana) went there a few weeks ago along with the Notre Dame football team for their game with Navy. I think most of them just drank a lot though, haven't heard much about the food. There are a lot of places nearby that call themselves pubs or have Irish-type stuff, but I don't know how authentic any of it is.

(Twix, Skittles, Starburst etc.) WTF!!!! those are american? well at least I have tried those...i wonder why they changed thename of opal fruits to starburst though...Opal fruits was a much better name IMO. BTW sorry if i didn't make it clear earlier, I am from a small, kinda remote village in Ireland so the things i mentioned wouldn't be easily available, but i might try amazon as one poster suggested. Thx

TY Tempest ^^ you as well as others described some of the flavours as being like peanut butter, which is one of those things that I detest, everyone i know loves it but i am not a fan, so the items i listed containing those I guess i won't miss. I love dark chocolate so I would still love to try Hersheys, and from looking on amazon some of the flavours of pop tarts sound mouth watering, i might buy some and test them out

Most of the stuff you listed I don't like at all.
twinkies - Probably the best thing on your list. But a pretty generic combo of processed cake and stiff cream filling.
pop tarts - some flavors are ok but some are horrid. Reasonably good when you heat them up. Stiff, plain, and pretty awful tasting if you don't. Kind of like a stale cookie with crusted on frosting with not enough filling in the middle.
nutterbutters- I actually really like nutterbutters. They taste like a processed peanut butter cookie with stale peanut butter in the middle but still kind of unique. Somehow that tastes good.
marshmallow fluff- Never had it, because I hate marshmellows
tootsie rolls - I don't know if you have Starburst candies there, but they're the chocolate equivalent of that. They don't taste like real chocolate and are very chewy. They get stuck in your teeth very easily.
kool aid - Very sugary. Tastes like watered down juice or fruity soda without carbonation. I used to love it as a kid, but now I rarely drink it.
taffy- Alot like tootie rolls. I don't eat it much so I'll defer that to some of the other posters
reese's - Definitely the best on the list. The chocolate is very good. The peanut butter is very good. You should try to order these from an online retailer for sure!
baby ruths - Caramel covered in salty peanuts. The caramel tastes pretty plain. The nuts taste like nuts. Pretty generic actually, but not bad. Decent combo of sweet and salty. (EDIT: Whoops I described PayDay. I haven't had a Baby Ruth in about 20 years. I must've mixed them up)
hersheys - Like nearly everyone else said, it's incredibly plain chocolate. Hardly anyone eats the plain full sized Hershey's bar. Mostly they use it in other things. Hershey's kisses are decent (the white chocolate almond ones are really good). Hershey's seems to be one of those lucky brands that associated itself with Christmas over here years ago, so nearly every Christmas party has a bowl of Hershey's chocolate out but it's some of the most boring candy you'll ever taste. Some of their other bars (like Crackle and Dark Chocolate) are decent though.
This thread makes me wonder which UK or Irish processed food I'm missing out on...

This thread makes me wonder which UK or Irish processed food I'm missing out on... Quite a lot, british chocolate is known to be a lot richer than american, there is literally dozens of 'candy' bars here for you to try. Also crisps (or chips as you call them) come in a lot more different variety here and from what i am told are tastier. Our fast food though is where British and Irish food excels in the junk food world Fish and Chip shops have various yummy things which IMO are superior to your McDonalds etc...

twinkies
I can't stand them personally, the cream filling is just too airy for me. But in general they're a yellow cake pastry with cream filling that is super duper sweet.
pop tarts
Pretty good. They have a thousand different flavors so it's imposible to describe how they taste, but the strawberry one's taste like (when they're warm) strawberry jam inside a very sweet frosted cracker.
nutterbutters
I love these things. They taste just like peanut butter but much stiffer than you'd see out of the jar (think the peanut butter equivalent of Oreo filling if you have those there, which I'm sure you do). Heck, just think the peanut butter equivalent of an Oreo in general.
marshmallow fluff
I hate the stuff but use it to make fudge with. It's damn near like melting a marshmellow and eating it, but without the nice roasted taste you get from putting one over a fire.
tootsie rolls
Not a huge fan. They are essentially chocolate taffy.
kool aid
Delicious. Pretty much flavored sugar water with no carbonation. The easiest stuff in the world to make (add kool aid packets, sugar, and water. Mix well).
taffy
I can't believe taffy doesn't exist in the UK. It's essentially just corn syrup and sugar heated up. Starburst is a sort of taffy. According to wikipedia you guys call them "chews."
reese's
The peanut butter cups are heaven on earth. They're just peanut butter covered in chocolate, but the peanut butter has a gritty texture that I love. Apparently it's made by mixing peanut butter with sugar and powered milk. Amazing, hell, I don't need the chocolate, I can just eat the peanut butter by itself, though the chocolate is a great compliment.
Reese's peices are essentially peanut butter M&M's, with no chocolate. Love those too.
baby ruths
Close to a Snickers bar, but while I love Snickers I can't stand Baby Ruth's. The nogut in a Baby Ruth is missing something.
hersheys
They make a ton of things but their chocolate is just ok. Not the best I've ever had, but not awful either. A Hershey's bar is just pure milk chocolate, while the superior Hershey's with almonds is milk chocolate with almonds. The one thing I'll give you Brits is that the Cadbury chocolate bar (and my favorite, the Fruit and Nut bar) is damn near perfect.

I love S'mores flavored pop tarts, but I usually get the store brand versions because they're cheaper
