John Landis recommends it in his book Monsters. Alas I haven't seen it myself.

John Landis recommends it in his book Monsters. Alas I haven't seen it myself. Hmm, have to check it out then. Here's the clip that gets shown a lot: As for monster groups, my favorite lycanthrope or werewolf is the woman in "Cat People". The scenes where she looks at the panther at the zoo have an eerie beauty to them, as if their souls are communicating. Such a great psychological profile, as she's afraid that she'll turn into a monster. Fears about female sexuality, as exemplified with her encounter with the strange eastern European woman that acts like their sisters, and those damn freaky scenes at the swimming pool and on the darkly lit sidewalk. Beautiful and suspenseful.

Has anyone seen "I Walked with a Zombie"? I've only seen the scene that talks about the Sublime but I want to check out the film, as has ties to Jane Eyre among other things. I watched it last year some time. It was interesting, though I personally didn't like it a whole lot. My taste leans more towards slasher movies and, like, Italian horror, though, so take that for what it's worth.

Still need more votes Next on our list a horror staple and favorite. Zombies BRAINS! Must eat BRAINS!! ... Nto sure what started off the whole Zombies eat brains association as most of the time they are happy to eat any parts of a human. Of course the early Zombies followed more traditional Voodoo mind control rather than the living dead, but these days the shambling hordes of rotting corpses are far more common. The odd one shows a level of intelligence, but for the most part they are mindless. The cause for the outbreak has ranged from a disease to alien influence, once it even involved a Sumatran Rat-Monkey. Now if you will excuse me I need to find myself a shotgun.

More days pass and I haven't had any new lists C'mon I know everyone out there watches movies and has there favorites, remember you can just send a top ten it doesn't have to be thirty (Although the more the better) Up next on the monster types list ... the magical undead The Mummy Under the ancient sandy deserts of Egypt, in tombs long forgotten the Mummy rests. But disturb the Tomb at your peril for should you steal from them or desecrate the crypt then the curse of the mummy may befall you! Certainly don't read from any ancient Books of the Dead. Don't read from the book!On the whole Mummies are slow moving, bandage covered monsters that Terroise those that defile the tombs of Egypt. Generaly immune to most conventional weaponry, some like Imhotep can use magic whilst others are half-man half scorpion (Wait .. no, we'll ignore that one ) The exception to this is the Chinese Mummy who had a variety of powers (He turned into a Three-Headed Dragon) and the one that terrorised Elvis in a nursing home ;D

Thursdays Monster type is: Mythical Creatures Ah yes mythical creatures, so many stories and fairy-tales so many strange and unusual monsters lurk within them. From the bedtime story past the unexplained creatures into the Myths and Legends of ancient cultures. All of these feature monsters of some sort another. From Minotaurs and Grinches to Leprechauns and Krakens all of these things have terrorised heroes throughout history and now in Film. You may be wondering where one paticular type of monster-maker who specialises in these kind of creatures is, well tune in tomorrow for the stop-motion master Question TimeName each monster and the film it comes from in the above picture?

As promised it's ... Ray Harryhausen Monsters Ray Harryhausen may not be familiar to everyone but to those who who love monsters and other fantasy creatures then his name stands out as the master of stop-motion animation. From Fantastic Creatures attacking cities to Sinbad and his many adventures all his creations stand out. Then of course there are the two films based on Greek myths Jason & the Argonauts and Clash of the Titans which are amazing to watch for the great monsters that antagonise the heroes. So don't steal from jewel boxes, beware magicians on remote islands, leave eggs from Venus alone and whatever you do don't bring back dinosaurs from a lost valley

Wrong Film 8.1/2 Right 9.1/2 Right 10. blank 11.Correct 12.1/2 Right 13. Correct (Grendel's Mother) Bonus Friday Monster Type!! Trolls & Ogres Not a common monster in film, but these lumbering, sometimes crafty, often stupid and always loud creatures are often incredibly memorable even in the obscure films they mostly appear in. Trolls on the whole are large powerful creatures that are not too bright which give the protagonists something to fight, occasionally they ally themselves with the hero but for the most part hiding under bridges and eating goats remains there niche. Some trolls are small, while Gremlins are kind of troll-like creatures albeit much more cunning and evil. Rule of thumb is the bigger the Troll the less bright it is. Ogres are also large brutish creatures that a sort of halfway to becoming a giant, most wield some sort of club-like weapon and the most well known is probably Shrek (I on the other hand always remember the one from Flight of the Dragons) Rock Biter from Never Ending Story always came across as the combination of a troll and an ogre which is why I have included him here.

What are the Mummy films you've used for your montage up there? I recognise The Rock and Vosloo but it's a movie monster that I'm not too familiar with.

Sunday Monster is ... Dinosaurs & Dragons What is really big and scary? Dinosaurs are of course. Every kid has a phase of loving dinosaurs, some never grow out of it. so it is inevitable that there have been many films about the prehistoric beasts that roamed the earth. Most know and love the T-Rex from Jurassic Park. Most are usually found in some remote area that avoided the extinction which then cause trouble for the explorers. Some are met going back in time whilst others are brought to the present using genetic code and super-computers The majority gone on a rampage eating people, there are some exceptions like the water horse but for the most part it's human for dinner. Similar to Dinosaurs we have Dragons, by default they can fly, breathe fire and horde gold. Some are portrayed as intelligent and wise whilst others just cause sheer mayhem. From typical European dragons to the more streamlined Japanese dragon all have appeared in film. Currently I'm not sure there is a stand-out film dragon, however that may change this year when Smaug finally graces the screen in the Hobbit, we'll have to wait and see on that. Godzilla isn't here because he is neither and will appear later on. Next time it's those damned, dirty ...

APES! Oh yes that's the ticket to monster stardom Monstrous Apes & Similar Creatures The Movie world isn't complete without films about apes or gorillas attacking or enslaving us. From King Kong to Planet of the Apes the ancestors of mankind make interesting and often intelligent foes. Back in the day it was either a guy in a suit or stop-motion and these were effective most of the time, as cgi improved the apes special effects so they became more agile and threatening. To go along with the generic ape like creatures there have been Missing Link movies and of course Yetis (Also there is Ro-Man who to be honest is in a field of his own, I know he's an alien but I couldn't not put him here )

Btw I put 'Frankenstein' in my list as a place holder and forgot to change it.
It's Frankenstein's Monster from the 1931 movie.
