Please vote for your top 30 Film Monsters Right Here.APES! Oh yes that's the ticket to monster stardom Monstrous Apes & Similar Creatures The Movie world isn't complete without films about apes or gorillas attacking or enslaving us. From King Kong to Planet of the Apes the ancestors of mankind make interesting and often intelligent foes. Back in the day it was either a guy in a suit or stop-motion and these were effective most of the time, as cgi improved the apes special effects so they became more agile and threatening. To go along with the generic ape like creatures there have been Missing Link movies and of course Yetis (Also there is Ro-Man who to be honest is in a field of his own, I know he's an alien but I couldn't not put him here )

Oh when you go down to the woods watch out, nature could just kill you!! When Nature Attacks Ah yes sometimes your out on a stroll in a park and then millions of Bees come and attack you due to deforestation or something. The Nature attacks genre of monster film never ends and I don't want it to. Be it giant sharks, rats, strange humanoid things from the deep or slugs (Yes there is a killer slug movie) Where do these creatues come from? DNA splicing, hidden valleys, locked in ice, disease or just pollution all of these and more have caused havoc to wildlife and then plagued us. However all of them have one thing in common they are for the most part completely silly. Well there is that one film that some director did that started the whole Blockbuster thing ... hmmm ... I think I'm gonna need a bigger .... AHhh the killer rabbits!!

So there is still plenty left and I'm not sure I will cover all the monster types at this rate Radiation Time! bring on the Mutations These days the idea of something created by Radiation is usually taken with a grain of salt, but once upon a time every monster under the sun was influenced by the splitting of the Atom, especially the King. Yep Godzilla, probably the worlds most famous movie monster who enjoys fighting other large monsters when not destroying Tokyo (We'll try and ignore the 1998 one ) Of course it's not just Godzilla who made a name from himself thanks to atom bombs, the Ants from Them! The Toxic Avenger and many more have had memorable moments from raditation gone wrong. Radiation apparently causes mutation in film more than death and as such various plants and animals have become a threat thanks to its power. Now where did I put my hazmat suit? Wait a second ... How can I mention Godzilla without mentioning all his foes and friends, now Godzilla isn't really my forte when it comes to monsters and I am bound to have missed a key one in the above image, but as you can see where Godzilla goes other even more bizarre elements of devastation follow. (Personally I was never convinced by Mothra) King Ghidorah almost seems normal when you have the likes of Biolantte, Hedorah or Gamera around, all have there moments and are worthy film monsters. (Here's hoping one of these guys appears in the upcoming film)

Who's next on the monster trail? Demons, Demonic Entities and The Devil Have you ever danced with the devil in the pale moonlight? I only ask because it's time for to raise Hell!! Ah yes Demons, manipulator of souls, playing with mortal fate they are found throughout films and are often very unpleasant. Be they inflicting pain or making deals with those unlucky enough to cross them. Of course the big head honcho is the Devil himself. Satan has appeared in numerous films both as an incarnation of pure evil and horror to the more comical and absurd. That leaves the entities that are demonic in nature but don't feel to be true demons in the strictest sense, Freddy Kruger, Cenobites, The Thing in the woods that plagues Ash are all demonic but have there own unique properties that makes them stand out. Who burnt this pentagon on the floor ... oh no a Tenacious D Demon!!

Is there someone in the house with you? The Slasher Films & Serial Killers If I tried to show all of them I would be here all day. The Slasher film is synonymous with the Halloween period and has conjured up some of the greatest cinematic monsters. From the fairly human killers like Norman Bates & Hannibal Lecter to the more supernatural killers such as Michael Myers or Jason Voorhees. All have murdered there way through teenagers, cops and everyone else in between to horrify the audience. The real monsters who could be living next door are the ones that can feel the most terrifying. Most use some sort of bladed weapon ranging from a knife to a chainsaw, very few use side-arms, Jigsaw is probably the exception as he sets traps but all of them like to play games with there victims. Mwa hahahahahaha!!

I don't really consider slashers to be monsters, unless they have obvious supernatural elements like Jason Vorhees of Michael Meyers. Otherwise, they'r epeople who commit crimes. To me, they may be monsters in the figurative sense, but not in the literal one.

Something bothers me with Michael Myers being unqualifiably denoted as supernatural. He was just an evil, psychotic man in the good movies (1, 2, 4). Even H20, if you want to count that. The supernatural stuff is only in the most tangential elements of the franchise, imo.

The way John Carpenter described him makes me think he's supernatural. He was made to be unkillable and a purely evil force.

Michael Myers durability and stealth always seemed a little bit unnatural even in the good films to me.

Watch the Skies!! Alien Space Monsters In space no one can hear you scream! Of course they can still see the trail of blood leading up to your corpse. Monsters from space are a common film type and the fun thing about alien monsters is they can be anything from a replicating cellular lifeform to a singing plant. They have appeared in slasher films, children's films, big budget films and animation. Most are a threat the odd one or two are friendly all are usually fun in some way or another. So make sure you not near a major city when something falls from the sky, that your crew hasn't brought back anything from the planet and for goodness sake listen to the raving madman! THEY'RE HERE, ALREADY! YOU'RE NEXT!

So you thought it was safe to just sit at home and tap away on the internet, how wrong you were!! Robots, AI & Machines The Mechanical Monsters, we create all these machines and tools to help in our daily lives and then they turn against us, or deduce using soulless logic we can't protect ourselves. From Skynet to Hal 9000 the idea humanity will fall to a machine of it's own creation has always been a popular story. As Technology has advanced so has the nature of the machines that will destroy us. Clunky Robots like Robbie changed into sophisticated Androids which then improved into Sophisticated AI's with vast intelligence and control. The other monster that comes from this is the seemingly normal machine that becomes a threat, a large truck in duel for example or the car in Christine. Now for the final thinnzzzzz...exec..... I can't let you do that Joker ... Noo! F.A.N is self-aware!!!

Two Major Film Franchises, lots of Monsters! Monsters of Star Wars & Lord of the Rings How many monsters are there in these two huge franchise films? The list is huge and they are some of the most well remembered creatures committed to celluloid everyone has a favorite from them. In Star Wars the monsters are mostly mere beasts used as traps for the heroes to escape. Be it Luke defeating the Rancor, The Millennium Falcon accidentally entering a space slug or the coliseum in Attack of the Clones. The Star Wars universe is filled with exciting but deadly creatures, one even became a mob boss Meanwhile Lord of the Rings is set in Fantasy so everyone is either fighting or using monsters in some form another, even the big bad Sauron himself is a monstrous Eye watching everything. Most remember the Balrog & Shelob but other creatures are equally entertaining. So whether your fighting the empire or saving middle-earth let's hear it for the monsters of these realms.

Friday and what have we got left? Witches, Wizards, The Wierd & The Rest Despite my efforts there are always something that don't fit nicely into anyone category. In terms of monsters this could be anything strange and odd. Evil Dolls, Menacing Children, The Phantom of the Opera, Witches, Evil Wizards or just a Floating Brain. All of these are unique and make for some memorable monsters in cinema. No one can forget the Giant Claw or the Golgothan, some are so weird it is hard to comprehend a film about them exists (Like the Death Bed, The Bed That Eats) but they do and keep appearing. So even if you don't like vampires, think aliens are stupid and that Godzilla is just a guy in a suit there is always something in the world of monsters that can be entertaining.
