Probably already asked but since the NHL just recently began to recover from it's last strike/lockout/whatever it was, is it possible that if another one happens and affects the season can/will it for all intents and purposes kill fan interest in a lot of markets?

For all the crap baseball got for the '94 strike- since then, they are the only of the big sports league with 0 work stoppages.

Yes. Let's take a look at my favorite team, the Kings as an example. They won the Stanley Cup this year and interest in the sport is almost at the same height that it was when Gretzky was here. If there's no season or hell even if there's half a season, interest will drop back to zero. Reason being that all the casuals/band wagoners will simply jump on the Lakers train since they've reloaded massively. Fan interest will return back to what it was before we even won the cup: the die-hards.

They will have at least 20 years of peace going from there until the expiration of the current CBA. I'm a casual NHL fan, but to me....I'm of the opinion that the NHL deserves to lose whatever fans they have remaining. Clearly they don't care. 4 work stoppages since 1992. That's absurd.

In 45 minutes my lockout of the NHL begins. I will not use any product from the NHL or that sponsors the NHL. This will require some changes, but I can adapt. f*** you NHL and f*** you NHLPA. Here is a list, if you wish to join wiki.answers.com/Q/Who_are_the_current_sponsors_of_the_NHLKeep in mind all the offshoots in Canada of things like Molson, like Coors, Rickards, Corona and such. Again, f*** you NHL.

In the grand scheme of things, unless fans really stop showing up (which I doubt), the league will still make money.

In the grand scheme of things, unless fans really stop showing up (which I doubt), the league will still make money. All movements have to start somewhere. I understand what you're saying and I do agree. I feel better by not giving my dollars to them. They have no money if I and you and others don't provide it. They carry on about who should get what share of HRR, never ever forget, that's OUR money, not theirs. Yeah, a single jersey or cap or cup of coffee, that's nothing, but it's still YOUR money going to them. They are divvying up OUR money, not theirs. I assume you bought some Kings Stanley Cup gear, which you should, I would. Let's do some extremely bad math and assume you spent $100. They're squabbling over your $100. Before the players got $60 (not true, but close enough), the owners got $40 (not true but close enough). Pumping money into a system you hate doesn't help.

So, apparently this is all because the owners want to cut the revenue pie from 57 percent.

I don't really want you to, but this thread should be locked, you know, just for the sake of realism.

So, apparently this is all because the owners want to cut the revenue pie from 57 percent. Man,f*** both sides. There's like a one to two percent difference right now based on previous proposals, but neither side wants to budge. I'm a bit more infuriated at the players. They want to be paid like their NBA or NFL stars when in reality they're not. Someone needs to put these guys in their place and remind them that they're NHL players and will never gain the popularity of those athletes and thus get paid like them. You're already getting pain millions of dollars and some hundreds of millions of dollars. Just work with the owners for as close to 50/50 as possible and just settle.
