The only way the Undertaker would be in the Royal Rumble would be as a surprise entrant, and surprise entrants won't boost buyrates.

Put him in it.
Whoever eliminates him is the Taker match for WrestleMania since we seem to be done with the story that started with them (in a loose way) when HBK beat Flair.

They could, but big name part-time wrestlers are usually brought into the Royal Rumble as a surprise entrant. I just can't see him showing up on Raw randomly, after not being on TV for almost a year, and saying he's going to be in the Royal Rumble.

They could do a storyline where Taker wants one more shot at the title, at Wrestlemania. So he enters the Rumble to earn the shot.

So the road to Taker vs Lesnar at Mania starts at the Rumble instead of Survivor Series?

Wait, on a PPV with the Rock in a WWE Championship match, they want Taker to boost buyrates? Somehow I don't buy it.

Goes like this
On RAW a few weeks before
Ziggler: I am gonna be in the Rumble and I am gonna win it Cody Rhodes: No, I am in the Rumble and I am gonna win it Kane: No, I am gonna be in it and I will win it. Daniel Bryan: No I am. More People: No, we are in it and we will win

Instead of Taker why not bring back another old big name. Like spend the next 3 months hyping a handfull of old legends to send mixed messages, Sting, Warrior, Austin, Sid. And then bring one of them back at RR.

This is only vaguely related, but I'm still baffled by having Rock get a title match at the Rumble. Wouldn't it make more sense to do it at Elimination Chamber? At least the Rumble already comes with a selling point that tends to, y'know, sell.

what i will hate about the next rumble is that the rumble match itself is inevitably NOT going to be the main event
