I think with the amount of tag teams today they could throw in a couple of extra elimination matches this year.

Hell, if they want to stick to 4 vs 4 tag teams or random tag teams, why not bring back War Games or the BattleBowl tournament? If Trips had his way War Games would be back. He's a big fan, and reportedly has tried to get Vince to use the match.

As with most things in the company, good booking is the important element - but that is of course in rare supply in the company generally.
I like the uniqueness of the PPV - like with the Royal Rumble match or the KOTR tournament, the Survivor Series matches should bring something different to the audience once a year. Making it just another event with singles matches was a mistake in my view - with the exception of WrestleMania and SummerSlam - they all seem the same. Maybe with Raw having the occasional six or eight men matches the concept doesn't quite have the same uniqueness, but again that comes down to booking.
I'm always felt disappointed that they didn't continue the Wild Card match concept from 1995 (I think) where faces and heels were mixed-up on the same team against another mixed team - that had a lot of possibilities for feuds and stories to arise from.
But as I've written about somewhere on this forum ages ago - I think they could make the event something very special by bring back the "Sole Survivor" concept they had in 1990. Here the winners in the tag matches progressed onto the main event, with the face survivors would wrestle the heel survivors. I think they could use this to find the "Sole Survivor" and award them with a title match at the Royal Rumble, or maybe have the champion involved and the winner being the WWE champion at the end of the night, or at the very least make it something to push another guy by showing his toughness.
You could then have maybe 20 guys from all across the card involved in matches, so in addition to main eventers progressing to the main event you can also have lower card guys being swept along and given the chance to mix with the big boys (like Tito Santana in '90).
I really think that would take the event to the next level.

This is the main reason 1998 and 2002 are my favorite Survivor Series events. Those matches were nowhere to be seen

I agree I've always found the Survivor Series quite dull.
Usually it's one guy on each team who have 'beef' with filler and it's just a matter of time to see which alsoran gets eliminated in what order. In the early days the matches were ridiculously long too.

I generally like it. The Raw vs. SD match from 05 (I think?) is one of my favorite matches.

I hate Survivor Series. In the old days it made sense, but in today's WWE there really is no appeal of a 4v4 match with guys we've seen fight each other 1,000,000 times before. Ya, that's the thing, it was exciting to see all that star power in the ring at the same time in the late 80s and early 90s, but we see it 3 times a week now so it's no big deal.

I used to like it as a kid, because the match has a natural appeal for kids. I stopped caring about it in the mid-late 90s when there was no effort put into booking actual Survivor Series matches. The only way I look forward to the event now, is if a marquee main event is billed.

I miss the days of teams having super cheesy names, like the Bossman Bashers or something.
