That's such a good explanation that I'm not sure if it's fake or not lol.
To be fair, MTV does still air music videos. They just put them on during the small hours of the night when nobody watches them. Nobody in their right mind is going to stay up until 3 AM just to see a music video when odds are they have an Internet-ready device less than 5 feet away from them.

If the stuff on now didn't get good ratings they'd pull it. So to me it's not so much that no one is buying music like they used to, but as they explained themselves, they get better ratings when they have full shows as opposed to a video that lasts 3 minutes
And if Tuesday Weld would only be my wife...

MTV U plays some awesome stuff I'd never expect to see on TV let alone an MTV branded channel based on the time I spent in the states, problem is it also sprinkles alot of s*** generic ringtone rap music in with it. but seeing acts like Grimes, Purity Ring, Santigold and Noisia on TV was pretty awesome. MTV Hits is as bad as the UK version and MTV jams is all the s*** videos from MTVU minus the good ones.
as for MTV not playing music videos anymore it doesnt have to as its not restricted to one channel anymore, and the dawn of digital Satalite and cable has allowed them to cover much more music than they ever would have before but in a more spread out way
