As long as this movie has Han, Lando and Chewie flying around in the Falcon in their search for intergalactic poontang everything else is just not important.

According to Badass Digest (I've never heard of them either), Disney is thinking of bucking the historical May trend and aiming for a December 2015 release for Episode 7. ...........if so, please please please please PLEASE open it on December 4th.

Why have so many directors turned down the role?

I assume because it's a risky project. It'll make a shit ton of money, but if it's bad, the backlash will be huge. Just look at the prequel trilogy, which FWIW, I'm a fan of, & enjoyed all three movies. I like the original trilogy better, but I don't have the ill will towards it as most do.
I'm happy with JJ Abrams as director. I'm excited to see what he brings to the table.

Why have so many directors turned down the role? I'm gonna assume a big part of it is that, if you're directing a STAR WARS movie, you're investing all your time in just that. Spielberg, for example, still directs now and then and is also a diverse producer - everything else he does takes a back seat if he does Episode 7. That's a lotta stuff. So he's not. Other newer/indy-level directors probably see STAR WARS as a giant project that, while it could make their career and open whole new doors for them, could kill their career if it or they fail, stereotype them forever (which limits what they do forever), or is just too big a movie for them to take on now (or ever). Abrams probably took it on not just because he's a SW geek, but he already worked on STAR TREK and knows the schedule and the energy required and can deal with the feedback.

The first one is gonna make or break the franchise for Disney so why rush it? If you get a rushed half assed movie just to put out in 2015 you're only screwing yourself in the long run because a lot of people won't bother with the rest.

Not really surprising to hear them wanting a delay. When you have a movie like Star Wars Episode VII which is going to have such impossibly high expectations as it is, only having 2 years to do it is going to be insane.

No issues with Pettyfer possibly being onboard this. His brief role in The Butler should really dispel a lot of the "bland pretty boy" criticism he gets.

It should be noted that the first Pirates of the Caribbean film was made in just 13 months, so Disney have knocked out excellent big-budget films in a short timeframe. Besides that, Star Wars has such a rabid built-in fanbase even if the film is a piece of shit, it'll still make a profit. Iron Man 3 is generally considered the weakest of the Marvel movies and still made $1.2 billion.

Movie has been pushed back til December of 2015 Was it ever supposed to come out (in the eyes of Disney, not the fanbase) earlier? People were hoping for May (the traditional release time for SW movies), and Disney at one point kinda hinted at an early summer release - PERHAPS to placate the fanboyz - but I didn't think this new release date was an official postponement.

Hugo Weaving as any sort of Imperial officer?
If this doesn't sell you alone on the movie, then I don't want to know you.
