There has been a lot of well known directors now that have turned it down. They are going to end up with a totally unknown one, aren't they?
For better or worse

The only name I can think of is Joss Whedon.

David Lynch makes up for him not directing ROTJ by doing episode VII.
And somehow he makes it work.

Ewan on Twitter when asked if he would say yes if offered to play Obi again.
Ewan McGregor @mcgregor_ewan Yes, I would definitely be up for it. I'd rather I'd play Obi-Wan Kenobi if they needed me rather than someone else.

Just for District 9 alone. They should offer Neil Blomkamp the directors chair. Well I guess we should wait if Elysium is going to be amazing.

Interestingly, though, this highlights something I read earlier in an interview with Lawrence Kasdan (writer of ESB and ROTJ, now consulting/working on the new trilogy & spinoffs) -- he said that Abrams was directing "the first one." .....could it be that he's directing just Episode 7? I think we all leap to assumptions that he's doing the whole trilogy, but as I read up, it only mentions Ep 7.

Taking it with a grain of salt. If Harrison Ford wants to reprise his role as Han Solo in a very brief, minor cameo, a la Arnold Schwarzenegger in "The Rundown", then it's fine by me. But if 60-plus-year-old Harrison Ford wants to play the role of Han Solo in a starring role, then I'm going to have to go ahead and say no thanks.

Maybe Star Wars 7 will be like Gran Torino An old maybe widowed Han Solo living alone, the Falcon under sheets in his garage. Just being old and grumpy until some youngling takes him out on adventure.... Where it shows he can still be a bad ass. Maybe more like Unforgiven then.
