My immediate thoughts (when I wasn't marking out of course) were "Wow, he's really getting punished for blabbing" and "Well....Mark Henry managed...."
It's still going to depend on where they go from here, e.g. if he looks strong in the Rumble or gets eliminated easily, but it's obviously had a great reaction among smarks if not the wider fanbase, so I reckon they should just run with it and see how far it can go.

As an early post said, this will do more to get him attention than another big fat unstoppable wrestler who will eventually get his ass beat by main eventers.
This is fun. This is cool because he did a great job putting effort and personality into it. Fans will love it. Not everyone is cut out to be a main eventer or an unstoppable force. Every company needs some version of the Funkosaurus.

Did this:
hurt Bob sapps credibility? Cause, y'know, if it works for him, why not the Funk-a-rilla?

He's way better off than if he pulled the monster heel schtick out.
Henry, Big Show, and Kane are all 3 doing "monster" gimmicks right now, Brodus wouldn't have a chance to compete against them.
This is fun, entertaining, and he seems into it.

When the music hit I thought he would come out with Ernest Miller as his mouthpiece. Book this, please!!!

I hope not. Pro wrestling should not be a serious thing.

Mark Henry pretty much has the market cornered on "big angry guy that wants to hurt people". We get too much of that anyway. Besides, if they want to take Brodus back in that direction, all they have to do is have him cut a promo saying "I'm tired of dancin' around like a fool, now I'm going to kick some ass!" and have him squash Ted DiBiase.

Funkosaurus Brodus Clay is exactly what we all wanted, but didn't even know we wanted.
It's distinctive, it's funny, it actually has a lot of room for direction (look how long Rikishi milked a similar gimmick).
Considering how long he's been in developmental, and how unimpressive his wrestling is in spite of that, I think it's a good bet that WWE just up and decided that he's never going to be a main eventer - but that doesn't mean he can't be a memorable midcarder.

So his punishment for blabbing off on Twitter is giving him an awesome funk gimmick? Not bad. I thought the same thing. Though if it is a punishment, he seems to enjoy it.

If WWE punishes people by giving them escorts and pyro, plus weeks worth of hype, remind me if they ever hire me to go punch Vince in the face.

So, have we determined yet how close Planet Funk is to Planet Stasiak? What about the Terrain of Testament? Or Parts Unknown? Too bad Death Valley is a real place. Undertaker's billed hometown would be great here.

All he has to do is come out to some mean sounding music, in all black, walk to the ring and suplex a s***load of babyfaces. Then win a few matches in convincing fashion, with said mean music/black attire. Then, people will take him seriously. It's wrestling.

I agree that he made it work. I was saying he died while still doing the gimmick, so there was nothing else after it. We'll never know if he "survived" the gimmick.

This makes me think that Ernest "The Cat" Miller may have been an ambassador from Planet Funk who was sent to Earth secretly by the Funkonians to see if we have the defenses to repel an attack. Obviously, he reported back that our defenses were solid, so they broke out the big guns and sent the Funkasaurus as the first wave of their invasion. I think that within a year's time, we'll all be dancing around and wanting people to call our mamas. I, for one, welcome our new funky overlords.

So, have we determined yet how close Planet Funk is to Planet Stasiak? Planet Funk is located in a system where the planet's environment is close enough to that of a certain ranch in Amarillo, Texas. Which is about 2.54 million miles from Planet Jarrett.

I have to admit, he is a pretty good dancer, lol
It's an entertaining gimmick, he seems to show enthusiasm for it, and there's just something inherently likeable about Brodus Clay.
