Was it a slip of the tongue, or is it really going back to 30?

From all accounts it's going back to 30.

Thank god.

From all accounts it's going back to 30. I guess that's okay. The only reason they went to 40 last year was because Corre and Nexus would have accounted for like 40% of the entrants in a 30-man.

Yep, the 40-man Rumble was a one-off I guess.

Sheamus mentioned 29 other men or something like that on Smackdown as well.
They've barely got like 50 active guys between Raw and Smackdown, 40 would be a lot of filler with guys who don't appear on TV like Johnny Curtis and Micheal McGuillicutty.

You say that like it's a bad thing. I mark for random guys in the Rumble. Hell I wish it was 50 and they had more indy guys come in, like the rumbles when they had Mil Mascaras or Doug Gilbert.

Since the WWE doesn't seem to care about more than half the roster these days anyway, and kinda has the crowds caring about even less than that, a 40 man Rumble would be full of a lot of silence. Which stinks because the 40 man Rumble was fun and I love seeing the mid-lower card guys get in on Rumbles.

The filler is what makes it fun for me, haha. Kane's in the middle of the ring, by himself... and then all of the sudden: 3... 2... 1... *buzz* L-L-L-L-Let's GO! Leeeet's gooo.... Derrick Bateman confidently struts down to the ring to take on Kane, only to be completely demolished. ;D

I like the idea for a 40 man rumble, when there is an abundance of roster talent, like last year.
This year, at this point, the roster is a little thinner...
John Morrison is gone, JoMo is a great performer in the Rumble match. McGillicutty, Harris, & other Nexus guys aren't on TV. Orton's "Out" Chavo, Masters, Koz, Khali, Sin Cara, Mysterio, Del Rio: are either working elsewhere, or on Injured Reserve.
The fact is the WWE has lost a lot more guys than they've signed/brought up recently. It makes a lot more sense to make it a 30-man Royal Rumble.

I guess it's fine but I liked the 40 man, with all the low card guys in it too and room for extra surprises and general goofing off.
Then the commentators have to sell it. "Bah Gawd it's...that's...THAT'S MCGILLICUTTY! BUSINESS IS ABOUT TO PICK UP!"

If the 40-man rumble really was a one-off it's really going to mess with the stats.

They really only did the 40 man rumble so they could get the Nexus in it.

If the 40-man rumble really was a one-off it's really going to mess with the stats. Not necessarily. It's not like Alberto Del Rio, or anyone else, really, lasted any longer than they could have, given the extra amount of time. Plus, it's not like 1995's one-minute intervals really messed with the stats. Sure, Shawn Michaels won at No. 1, but they no one has ever said he has the longest time in a Rumble.

wwe.com lists the match as a 30-man Royal Rumble. (It also added the CM Punk/Dolph Ziggler match to the card already)

It's the Rumble, if it's 30, 40 or 524 men, I'd watch in anticipation.

I was under the impression they went 40 last year because they wanted to do the Nexus/Corre angle in the Rumble. Doesn't make much sense to keep doing it or else it'll lose its appeal whenever they do it again.

They were somewhat desperate last year to make the Royal Rumble a bit more special than it was looking to be. They didn't have the Undertaker, Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Chris Jericho, and Batista. Plus they couldn't advertise Randy Orton (and to a lesser extent Dolph Ziggler) as participants since they had matches earlier in the night. They also couldn't advertise Booker T or Diesel.
So a 30 man Rumble with John Cena, Rey Mysterio, Alberto Del Rio, Kane, Big Show, CM Punk, Wade Barrett, King Sheamus, John Morrison, and Daniel Bryan was not something they could brag as being the most star studded Royal Rumble ever. But when they increased it to 40 superstars, they could say "this is the biggest Royal Rumble in history!!! omg omg!"

good. Last year's jobbertastic Rumble was terrible. There are only certain people I want to see on PPV and Superstars filler are not amongst them.
