Orton hurt his back, hope its not like what Shawn Michaels had where he lost 4 years of his career. Hoping for the best and that the injury will only require a couple of weeks off

Why throw him down the stairs?!?
Why?
Seriously, you can't fake that, no matter how much you try. Stupid WWE. Stupid. Stupid.

That sucks, but Orton is in this weird spot now where he's number 3 behind Cena and Punk and it really shows. It just sort of feels like he's aimlessly floating around. Some time off would do him some good. He could come back refreshed.

Removed the spoiler tags, since it's all over WWE.COM, WWE Twitter and Facebook pages.

I don't know what more you guys want out of Orton. First you want him out of the main event scene and want someone new. Well you get that and he's put in some mid-card feuds that arguably helping Barrett. What can one of the best workers in the company do to refresh? His characters been on a roll.

I think it's just in the fact that he had that feud with Christian that just wouldn't end, then the feuds with Henry, Cody, and Barrett where he's mostly just been getting used to make them look better. It's a good use of Orton but by the same token you can tell WWE's clearly at a loss for what exactly to do with him at this point.

So the injured list includes Randy Orton, Taker, Mark Henry, Del Rio, Christian, Sin Cara... anybody else? Rey Mysterio as well.

Let's hope Barrett had nothing to do with this... you know what Orton's like.

Honestly I feel like Orton has run his course as a main-eventer.
He can easily be this generation's Chris Jericho where he'll be an occasional main-eventer if need be, but he should spend his time feuding with midcarders who need that step into the upper echelon.

Was someone here at the show that knows what happened in the match? It was pretty much a back and forth fight that went everywhere in the building. Even inside an elevator. The injury seemed to occur at the end where Barrett threw Orton down a flight of stairs.

I'm guessing it's an angle used to write him out. Nobody would be dumb enough to let themselves get thrown down stairs.

Probably happened at 3 in the afternoon. lol. As for the other post who said who would be stupid enough to let themselves be thrown down stairs.... He'd probably have done the infamous Zach Gowen spot for real in the late 90's.

This screams angle, and Orton returning to win at the Rumble. Orton/Bryan at Mania?

If it's an angle, why would they remove him from this weeks house shows, as opposed to wait until Smackdown airs and then say "Orton got injured this Friday, so he won't be able to appear on house shows from now on"?
Of the top of my head, pretty much the only time WWE.com directly acknowledges that Smackdown tapes early is when there's a World title change (well, at least some of those times).

WWE's clearly at a loss for what exactly to do with him at this point. I think they wanted to be able to build Smackdown around him, and panicked when ratings plunged into the toilet. And possibly got pissed off over that interview where he joked about Kelly's promiscuity and complained that Mark Henry didn't know how to work. He's still too popular a star to toss away, but he doesn't draw in the brand's main events, so he's been hanging around while midcard heels get built up to be fed to him. I wouldn't be surprised if the original plan was for the Orton/Henry world title feud to end with Orton retaining (through Dusty finishes that'd keep Henry protected, possibly involving interference from the returning Big Show) and Henry/Show was intended to be the secondary feud on Smackdown while Randy defended the belt against Rhodes and then Barrett.

I don't like the sound of anything with disks and backs. With Austin, Angle, and Edge...I cringe at the thought of any problems in that area. Hopefully he will be fine for Mania. The three you mention are actually discs and necks, not backs.

I'm guessing it's an angle used to write him out. Nobody would be dumb enough to let themselves get thrown down stairs. Unless you're Mick Foley! ... Ironically enough, it was Orton who kicked him down the stairs.
