Absolutely shocking. I saw DKR this morning, if I knew about this when I went in, I wouldn't have went in. Those poor, poor people. I'm glad I live in the UK where this is a lot less likely. Yeah, thank goodness for the whole 'no guns' thing we have else this could be happening all over place. Some people, just wow. I can see on the news here that some people have already begun trying to blame comics, and the fact that these films were too realistic and it was just waiting to happen. Thoughts to anyone involved in this.

This makes me really nervous to see the movie now, despite living in the middle of nowhere in the UK.

This incident has made my mom so damn paranoid that she is insisting I take my Browning pocket knife with me to my showing this afternoon to be on the safe side.
To get her to stop worrying too much I agreed to do so. That makes this the first time that my knife will actually leave my house. I never needed it before.

Truth is, this very likely has nothing to do with comic books, or even the actual movie itself. This asshole just picked a movie where he knew the theater would be FULL. Outside of that, I doubt he gave a rat's ass.

Holmes was a student at the University of Colorado, Denver School of Medicine, who withdrew last month. His family live in San Diego.

Really I'm not taking it for MY safety, I'm taking it for the mental safety of my mom.

According to various news sites one of the victims was hockey blogger Jessica Redfield, who last month blogged about narrowly avoiding the Eaton center Shooting.

I haven't had a chance to read through the whole thread yet, but this whole thing just makes me so sad. Maybe it's because we're all so connected to the Fanboy and midnight showing culture, but it just seems to hit home with me more than other recent shootings have.
I really hope that this doesn't keep people from going to the movie. I can't wait to talk to my friends about it, and enjoy it for what it is, and I hope that this horrible attack doesn't ruin that part of our culture.

This sounds like something I would read about happening in the Summer of 1968. What a tragedy. I imagine this guy is going to replace Klebold and Harris as the most hated person in Colorado history, and they have him in custody now. I would hope that would be and remain Col. John Chivington, who conducted the Sand Creek Massacre, upon a village of women and children under the protection of the American flag, in 1864. He thought it was particularly important to kill the indian children because "nits make lice".

Members of the military are among the dead according to the Pentagon. Maybe I've just been brainwashed, but something tells me they may have died trying to save other lives.

I'm at least somewhat glad the guy didn't kill himself afterwards, which is often how these things turn out. Now he has a long time to pay the consequences of this.

Well, I would certainly expect that theaters will now make sure to have way more security for these midnight shows now, although I suspect this will scare a few people off from hitting the midnight shows now. That's actually a good point, and it does not necessarily apply just to midnight shows either. If Dark Knight Rises underperforms this weekend, this could certainly be an explanation for that. It's this sort of thing that can cause theater attendance to drop temporarily. Now, as a far as midnight showings go, expect a tighter policy on masks or other face covering clothing for other big movie premiers. couldn't they check for GUNS instead? RIP to the victims

This guy kicked in the emergency exit, threw in a gas grenade of some sort, and went from there.
Security checks probably wouldn't have helped much.
